Job Description

 

AECOM is actively seeking an exceptionally talented, hardworking and experienced Rail Planner for immediate employment in New England. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate experience, interest and knowledge of rail planning related to corridor planning, service planning and line extensions and station area planning as examples. Candidate should have technical skills related to items such as track, infrastructure, equipment, rail systems (signals & communications, overhead contact and traction power systems, PTC as examples).

The applicant can look forward to leading major transportation planning and related planning projects including but not limited to large scale transportation corridor planning studies, conceptual plans, alternatives analyses, comprehensive transportation plans, Master Plans, Complete Streets, multi-modal and corridor studies, strategic plans.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Act as the lead planner for major multidisciplinary corridors studies throughout New England.
  • Support development of sustainable and resilient rail projects, including long range rail service plans and innovative approaches to developing rail service improvements.
  • Support climate change related planning projects and initiatives throughout the region.
  • Support AECOM’s national multimodal transportation and electrification groups.
  • Work with other Northeast offices to support and develop the rail planning practice throughout the region.
  • Prepare conceptual designs, reports, presentation materials, recommendations, assessments, and impact statements.
  • Analyze data from modeling software, Geographic Information Systems, or associated databases.
  • Collaborate with land use planners, zoning professionals, economists, and travel demand modelers to research, analyze, or resolve complex transportation, rail and transit design issues.
  • Analyze planning projects related to transportation including land use policies, impact of projects and long-range planning needs.
  • Participate in and/or lead public meetings or hearings to explain planning proposals, to gather feedback from those affected by projects, or to achieve consensus on project designs.
  • Work on projects on the Northeast Corridor rail system including supporting ridership forecasting, capital project planning, and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) grant compliance.
  • Support rail-related grant writing efforts.

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS in Transportation Planning, Engineering, Geography or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Transportation Planning, Transportation Engineering, Urban Planning, Geography, or similar field.
  • Five years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to manage and work on several projects or issues simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with InDesign or Illustrator software.
  • Experience with CAD, MicroStation, SketchUp software.
  • Grant writing experience.

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $70,000.00 to 129,000.00
