Full-Time AmeriCorps Volunteer Coordinator (New York)

AmeriCorps members serve full-time, in-person from August/September 2024  to June/July 2025, and must commit to a service term of 1700+ hours. All AmeriCorps positions are full-time, Monday-Friday, with a daily schedule that could vary, and is generally 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM, with an average of 8+ hours per day. AmeriCorps members understand this is a service opportunity, not a job, and are committed to completing their full term of service. 

All AmeriCorps members receive intensive training at the start of their service, as well as ongoing training and professional development throughout their service term. Training may happen at the Reading Partners office, or at school/partner sites across the region. 

Description of Duties: 

Co-lead efforts to recruit, onboard, train, and engage volunteer tutors to deliver Reading Partners’ tutoring programs.

  • Train volunteers and orient them to Reading Partners’ curriculum, volunteer expectations, and next steps through leading presentations/training sessions
  • Manage volunteer data and track volunteers through the process of becoming volunteers 
  • Support volunteer calls and emails to ensure a timely and positive onboarding experience
  • Forge and maintain positive relationships to create a welcoming environment for volunteers 
  • Support the creation of marketing materials (one-pagers, graphics, social media content, etc) to support volunteer recruitment efforts 

Manage a portfolio of community partners to bolster tutor recruitment efforts. 

  • Research and cultivate new partners and maximize existing partnerships
  • Execute community engagement initiatives in the region, such as tabling, flyering, etc
  • Provide marketing and brand awareness support

Volunteer Coordinators are integral to supporting student learning through regional tutoring initiatives, including tutoring student(s) on a regular or as-needed basis, demonstrating a commitment to educational enrichment and community impact. 

As ambassadors for Reading Partners and AmeriCorps, our dedicated members play a pivotal role in fostering community engagement and awareness, actively sharing their impactful service experiences to inspire others and contribute to the collective narrative of positive change in literacy education. AmeriCorps members also commit to community service projects throughout their service term, such as, but not limited to, the 09/11 Day of Service. 

Eligibility: 

  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Hold US Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status
  • Be at least 18-years old at the beginning of your service 
  • Have not completed more than four (4) terms with AmeriCorps

Qualifications: 

  • Root your service in our vision & values
  • Pay strong attention to detail and manage competing priorities effectively
  • Are open to learning technology systems like Salesforce, Google Apps, and Zoom 
  • Are able to both collaborate in a team environment and work independently
  • Bonus points if you are an AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, or other national service alum/alumna; and/or have experience volunteering with community-based or education programs

Other Considerations: 

  • AmeriCorps members must live within commuting distance and have access to reliable transportation on a daily basis, including public transportation 
  • Due to the changing nature of serving in public education, AmeriCorps members may be asked to transition to another Reading Partners AmeriCorps position in the same region
