High School Math Teacher

We are seeking an outstanding full time Upper School Math teacher to join our team of faculty beginning in August of 2024. 

Steamboat Mountain School’s math classes afford students the opportunity to build quantitative reasoning skills, critical thinking, numerical confidence, and resilience in problem solving, both through the conceptualization of data and its real world applications. SMS math teachers focus not only on skill-building and conceptual understanding, but they also create opportunities to use mathematics in exploring real world phenomena. The mathematics department embraces a spiraled and recursive approach to learning, where, through our integrated math sequence, concepts are revisited with greater detail and complexity.

We are looking for candidates who have a professional educational background, math content knowledge, and a passion for teaching and learning. Further, successful candidates ideally also possess familiarity with Understanding by Design, Project Based Learning, and an interest in inquiry based education. Those with experience in outdoor education, travel programs, or residential schools are strongly encouraged to apply. 

Specific job responsibilities include:

  • Teaching 4 sections of math
  • Leading outdoor trips and activities
  • Residential duties
  • Potentially leading an international trip for a month in the Spring

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, Master’s Degree preferred
  • At least five years of teaching experience
  • Experience with either outdoor or travel education
  • A collaborative and self-motivated attitude
  • Sense of humor, flexibility, optimism, and a growth mindset

Compensation and Benefits:

Steamboat Mountain School offers a rich and comprehensive benefits package for full time employees.

  • Salary range, $35,000 - $45,000
  • School paid Medical insurance including short term disability

  • Retirement contribution match after one year of service
  • Tuition remission benefits after two years of service
  • Approximately eight weeks of summer holiday and all school traditional holidays
  • On-campus housing may be available and will be part of the total compensation package
