Communications & Outreach Intern (MA Residents)

Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC) is dedicated to preventing environmental causes of breast cancer through community education, research advocacy, and changes to public policy.

MBCC is looking for a Communications & Outreach Intern whose main focus will be supporting all aspects of the annual Against the Tide events. MBCC will host its special 25th Anniversary Cape Cod Against the Tide event at DCR’s Nickerson State Park (at the new Cliff Pond location) on Saturday, June 8th, 2024 in Brewster, MA. The weekend after, MBCC will host the second Against the Tide event at DCR’s Hopkinton State Park on Saturday, June 15th for Against the Tide’s 32nd year! Events include 1-mile recreational and competitive swims, 1⁄2-mile recreational swim, USATF-Certified 5K and 10K runs, and a 3-mile fitness walk.

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP

The flexibility of this internship is substantial given its work from home nature. Phone and internet will be the primary communication tools for assignments. As an Against the Tide Event Intern, you will have the opportunity to work closely with our team to support the planning and execution of the Against the Tide multi-sport fundraising event. This internship will provide hands-on experience in various aspects of event management, communications, outreach, social media, event management, and database management. As this is an internship for a small non-profit organization, we cannot offer payment.

Qualifications:

  • College and Graduate students with minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Detail-oriented, organized, ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously with competing deadlines
  • Proficiency with social media platforms as well as Excel and/or Google Sheets
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and a team player
  • Passion for the mission of the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition

Requirements:

  • At least 15 morning hours per week
  • Required attendance at both Against the Tide events (June 8 in Brewster, MA and June 15 in Hopkinton, MA -- MBCC will provide accommodation) as a pro-bono volunteer

Start dates and durations are negotiable.
