Data Science Intern

The intern will work with a team of highly experienced engineers who maintain and support the use of CDC's high-performance scientific computing infrastructure. This infrastructure is used by CDC researchers to analyze disease outbreak data from COVID19 samples as well as food and waterborne disease outbreaks.  The intern will work under the guidance of our infrastructure team to apply scripting and data science skills towards designing, automating and visualizing select aspects of the infrastructure environment. Through this internship, they will gain an exposure to the foundational role of computing infrastructure in enabling public health data science. The position will offer the valuable experience of working in High Performance Cluster computing environment in support of public health scientific efforts at the CDC.

    

Basic Qualifications:

Currently pursuing a Master's in data science related degree

Hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited academic institution

Be a US citizen or permanent resident;

Applicants should have a keen interest in careers in public health and in developing strong public health analytic and evaluation skills. Applicants must:

Submit an official transcript;

Submit two letters of recommendation;

Pass a background check for CDC clearance;

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a scripting language such bash, python, perl, ruby would be preferred

A self-starter who seeks out answers from appropriate stakeholders as needed to verify and correct existing documentation.
