Summer Intern/Human Genetics and Genomics

Department Description:

The Human Genetics and Genomics (HGG) organization is one of the key components of GSK’s research strategy. HGG supports drug discovery and development across the GSK R&D organization through integrative analysis of all forms of genetics and genomics data, as well as the development of new computational and statistical methods to understand disease mechanisms. We contribute to multiple phases of the drug discovery pipeline, and our work drives the development of new medicines for diseases with unmet medical need.

Job Description:

The project will involve the analysis and comparison of transcriptomic data from large scale genetic perturbation screens to identify relationships between perturbed and unperturbed genes. The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary, collaborative, and scientifically-driven environment, interacting with GSK scientists from a variety of backgrounds to advance drug discovery.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a Master’s or PhD degree in Computational Biology, Genomics, Genetics, Computational/Data Sciences, Bioinformatics, Biomedical/Biological Sciences, or a similar discipline
  • Familiarity with at least one programming language for data analysis (R or Python preferred)
  • Knowledge of fundamental concepts in statistical analysis of transcriptomic data
  • Must be able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the duration of the assignment.
  • Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with single cell data analysis
  • Strong background in statistical methods
  • Experience with High Performance Computing in a Linux environment
  • Knowledge or experience with principles of cloud computing

Benefits:

  • While GSK embraces a flexible work environment, we do require certain positions to be onsite. Candidates who are hired for an on-site role or hybrid role, and reside outside of 50-miles from their assigned work location, are eligible for relocation stipend. This is a one-time payment to help offset housing & relocation expenses. Please refer to the position details for the requirements of each position.
