An opportunity has risen for a highly motivated undergraduate or master’s student to join a cellular engineering group in the department of Protein, Cellular, and Structural Sciences (PCSS) at GSK’s facility in Upper Providence, Pennsylvania. The primary responsibility of the department is to design, generate and validate biological reagents for early drug discovery activities across all of GSK’s therapeutic modalities (small molecules, biologics, and oligos). The department also provides the structural and mechanistic understanding of drug target, molecular recognition, and mode of action to deliver the best molecule.

Job Description:

This position will receive guidance and mentoring from experienced professionals in genome editing in PCSS. The candidate will generate and deliver cellular reagents to support research activities in multiple therapeutic areas. In this role, the candidate will gain hands-on experience in CRISPR-mediated genome editing, next-generation sequencing, and nanopore sequencing technologies. It also offers networking opportunities to connect with professionals across different functional units within the pharmaceutical industry.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be currently pursuing a BA/BS or MS in Biology (Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Oncology, etc.), Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biomedical engineering or similar.
  • Must be able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the duration of the assignment.
  • Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiar with basic molecular biology techniques such as DNA isolation, molecular cloning, PCR etc.
  • Experience in mammalian cell culture.
  • Basic knowledge about genome editing (CRISPR) and sequencing technologies.
  • Attention to detail. Excellent documentation, organization, data analysis and communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm and excitement for cutting-edge genome editing and sequencing technologies.
