Summer Intern/Drug Product Development

GSK

Department Description:

Drug Product Development-Steriles (DPD-Steriles), part of Medicine Development Supply (MDS), is a core R&D function that supports our Research Units in the design and development of new drug products encompassing both small and biopharmaceutical molecules. We bring together outstanding people across disciplines including formulation, packaging, biopharmaceutics, engineering, modelling, and process analytics to develop innovative, robust, and patient-centric medicines for sterile drug products from pre-clinical through the different phases of clinical development and commercialization. DPD-Steriles is accountable for the design, development and industrialisation of drug products and their manufacturing processes.

We are seeking a student for a 3-month internship program who is interested in biopharmaceutical (biologics) formulation development and in-vitro/in-vivo performance. This position will allow the selected candidate to:

  • Expand and apply knowledge in pharmaceutical sciences, drug absorption, chemistry, and material science, with data analytics skills, to determine important factors impacting the product performance (PK/ bioavailability) from subcutaneous route for one or more of our sterile injectable drug delivery platforms such as monoclonal antibodies. Ability to collaborate in cross-functional settings will be essential.
  • Develop and determine critical attributes to be monitored during sterile injectable biologics drug product development.
  • Perform pre-formulation activities and developability assessment, e.g., SCISSOR model for subcutaneous modality.
  • Work closely with analytical and drug product experts to analyze and characterize the various prototype drug product formulations.
  • Gain deep understanding in principles of biologics formulation and product development.
  • Developing analytical methods to understand molecular interactions and propose an improved model that can be used across the portfolio.
  • Summarize key findings via periodic meetings, presentations, and reports.
  • At the end of the internship, you may have the opportunity to present the findings and conclusions to the department and externalize gained knowledge via presentation or publication.

  • Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Laboratory experience in pharmaceutical sciences.
  • Basic understanding of injectable biologic formulations and subcutaneous PK/bioavailability.
  • Experience with design of experiment (DoE), data analytics and multivariate analysis.
  • Experience with HPLC (SEC), UV/Vis spectroscopy, in-vitro SCISSOR model.
  • Excellent organization, written/oral skills.
