About Wastewater Operations & Maintenance
The Wastewater Facility Operations & Maintenance section is responsible for the daily functioning and control of the Regional Wastewater Control Facility. The facility operates with an extensive system of instrumentation that sends signal/status to a central processing unit (computer system).
 
Operations are supported by maintenance staff for repairs for technical services for the design and implementation of improvement and replacement projects, and the onsite laboratory for hundreds of accurate analyses every week to assess the treatment results.

Position and Duties: Senior Engineer
 
The City’s San Jose-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility (RWF) in the Environmental Services Department is currently recruiting for a highly motivated Senior Engineer to oversee the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Engineering and Asset Management section comprising of eleven (11) full-time employees, including engineers, engineering technicians, and Geographic Information System Specialists.
 
Typical duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Lead and manage various staff in O&M Engineering, Geographic Information System (GIS), and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) groups.
  • Project management for various O&M design and construction projects.
  • Manage professional service contracts for various O&M projects.
  • Procurement of construction contracts, professional services, various service contracts for repairs, and rehabilitation of various treatment process areas.
  • Coordinator of the Asset Management (above-ground assets) and GIS (below-ground assets) Program requirements with the RWF O&M Capital Improvement Program staff.
  • Administer and implement the electronic document management systems for RWF O&M Division.
  • Prepare technical reports, documentation, and memorandums.
  • Develop project proposals and work plans for O&M; and work with the capital improvement Project Managers in the development of their proposals, as needed.
  • Establish standard specifications, details, and standard operating procedures.
  • Establish and oversee risk-based methodologies to manage all assets.
  • Coordinate the Asset Management Program requirements with Engineering, Operations, Finance, IT, and Support Services.

 

Salary Information:
The annual salary range for the position is presently $144,296.88 – $182,495.04. This salary range include an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

1. Education: A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in the required professional engineering discipline.

2. Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience.

3. Licenses: 

  • Certificate of Registration in a relevant professional engineering discipline.
  • Possession of a valid State of California’s driver’s license may be required.
