Associate Director, Research Administration
Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Associate Director, Research Administration - Boca Raton, FL.
Under minimal supervision, the Associate Director of Research Administration leads and oversees the planning, compliance, and day to day operations of the College of Medicine’s pre- and post-award sponsored research. The Associate Director is expected to deliver high-quality, customer-focused solutions for investigators conducting basic and clinical research from a range of funding sources including private foundations and state, local, and federal government funding agencies, interacting with COM leadership, faculty and staff to facilitate planning, execution, and administration for grant-related initiatives. The Associate Director works closely with faculty and research staff to apply for and manage grants received by the College. This position may include special projects related to strategic and financial planning for research funding growth and tracking and reporting of sponsored research metrics, process improvement, technology solutions, and policy creation.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Provide day to day leadership for the pre- and post-award grants management team including training, task assignments, monitoring performance expectations, and ensuring compliance.
Evaluate research operations which may include performance metrics (e.g. KPIs, US News & World Reports), managerial and budget support, capital planning and process improvement.
Serve as Budget Manager and provide review for all proposals routing through the College of Medicine.
Pre- and post-award management of a higher-complexity research portfolio including proposal and budget development, award set up, maintenance, reporting and closeout
Provide guidance to College faculty during the proposal development process by interpreting sponsor guidelines, providing templates, and assisting with budget development.
Coordinate with the Office for Sponsored Programs to ensure smooth proposal submissions and new award set-ups.
Work with Research Accounting Office to ensure timely financial reporting and invoicing.
Monitor spending on awards for compliance with federal, university, and sponsor regulations.
Forecast expenses and provide regular financial reports to faculty.
Process costing allocations, payroll and accounting adjustments, and budget amendments.
Facilitate progress report submissions, no-cost extensions, and re-budget requests.
Lead the development of complex, training, and/or other departmental proposals in coordination with faculty.
Interpret university and sponsor policies and guidelines for faculty members and their research teams.
Serve as direct contact for new faculty researchers and their teams, transferring grant awards and orienting them to college and university sponsored research processes.
Research and distribute targeted funding opportunities for faculty researchers, post-doctoral fellows and graduate students.
Oversee quarterly effort certification process and monitor completion status.
Monitor federal and sponsored research related policies and communicate changes to researchers and their teams.
Work as a liaison to College faculty to answer questions, research, analyze, and resolve problems on new, existing, or terminated grant-making initiatives.
Track all sponsored research activity including submissions and awards and perform data monitoring functions.
Provide metric reports and graphs to College and University leadership, as well as US News and World Report.
Recommend and implement strategies for research funding growth and grants acquisition in partnership with COM leadership.
Evaluate submission and funding rates to determine areas for development.
Build multidisciplinary collaborations between researchers.
Serve as liaison to the Office of Sponsored Programs, Research Accounting, Research Integrity, FAU Foundation and other relevant offices within the University to improve processes, communicate college needs, and resolve issues.
Maintain sponsored research shared resources, and implement process improvements and policy updates as needed.
Develops, implements, and monitors sponsored research processes and resources to ensure timely and effective coordination and communication.
Provide guidance to College leadership to ensure both technology resources and processes are streamlined, automated and efficiencies are continuously being assessed.
Serves as a backup for other team members when needed, and performs other tasks and duties as deemed appropriate by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and four (4) years of appropriate experience; or Bachelor's degree rom an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and six (6) years of appropriate experience required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and 2 years of appropriate experience preferred.
Sound knowledge of federal and NIH policies.
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal skills.
Knowledge of FAU policies and procedures.
Experience handling large and complex portfolios.
Experience working on proposals involving animals and human subjects.
Experience with clinical research.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Experience with Workday and Novelution.

$75,000 - $100,000 per year
