Summer Intern/Large Molecule Development

Department Description:

Drug Product Development (DPD), part of Medicine Development and Supply (MDS), is a core R&D function that supports our discovery Research Units in the design and development of new drug products. We bring together outstanding people across disciplines including formulation, packaging, biopharmaceutics, engineering, modelling, and process analytics to develop innovative, robust and patient-centric medicines from pre-clinical through the different phases of clinical development and commercialization. Drug Product Development is accountable for the design, development and industrialisation of drug products and their manufacturing processes. 

Job Description:

This position will allow the selected candidate to:

  • Expand and apply knowledge in pharmaceutical sciences, biochemistry, chemistry, chemical engineering, packaging science and formulation with data analytics skills to perform multivariate analysis​ and determine important factors impacting the stability and performance of one or more of our intravenous drug products.
  • Ability to collaborate in cross-functional settings will be essential. 
  • Determine significant attributes to be monitored during in-use stability of drug products​.
  • Perform activities such as compatibility studies, etc.
  • Work closely with Subject Matter Experts to analyze and characterize the various drug product presentations. ​
  • Interpret analytical results to understand the impact on critical quality parameters of drug products.​
  • Determine the compatibility of product formulations with primary packaging systems.
  • Summarize key findings via periodic meetings, presentations, and draft reports.
  • At the end of the internship, you may have an opportunity to present the findings and conclusions to the department.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Packaging engineering or any other related disciplines.
  • Must be able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the duration of the assignment.
  • Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible.
  • Critical and analytical thinking with the ability to collaborate and present relevant findings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding of pharmaceutical formulations and drug delivery platforms
  • Understanding of basic laboratory techniques and data analytics

  • While GSK embraces a flexible work environment, we do require certain positions to be onsite. Candidates who are hired for an on-site role and reside outside of 50-miles from their assigned work location are eligible for relocation stipend. This is a one-time payment to help offset housing & relocation expenses. Please refer to the position details for the requirements of each position.
