Design Internship

Mass Poetry, a nonprofit poetry organization headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, seeks an individual with graphic design experience to serve in the role of Design Intern. 

Mass Poetry envisions a world where poetry catalyzes understanding & connection. We harness the power of words to engage and empower diverse communities across our commonwealth. Our innovative programs spark dialogue, connection, and self-expression. From serving as an arts-partner-in-residence at GrubStreet’s Center for Creative Writing to placing poets-in-residence in partner schools, Mass Poetry works to build a vibrant, inclusive community that lifts all voices.

From May 3 - 5, 2024, Mass Poetry will host the Write Here | Right Now | Speak Loud | Teen Spoken Word Festival in Boston’s Seaport. This year’s festival will feature workshops, a poetry slam, and will draw 100+ teens from across Massachusetts. Our design intern will support the design of festival materials. This position involves occasional travel to Mass Poetry’s headquarters in downtown Boston and requires approximately 8 hours per week, though the majority of the work will be remote in nature. A stipend of $350/month is provided. This position will run through May 9, 2024. 

The Design Intern is responsible for these primary responsibilities:

  • Design digital and print content for the Festival including social media posts, signage, promotional materials, and more;
  • Adhere to Mass Poetry’s brand and style when designing collateral;
  • Create digital content for display on Mass Poetry’s festival website;
  • Helps to prepare marketing and event materials;
  • Plans to work in-person at the Festival on May 3 - 5 in Boston, MA;
  • Complete other administrative tasks for Mass Poetry as needed

The ideal Design Intern candidate has experience:

  • Using the Canvas and the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, In Design);
  • Designing on-brand print and digital materials;
  • Solving problems quickly and creatively;
  • Multi-tasking with ease;
  • Working independently to meet tight deadlines;
  • Working well as a member of a team
