Research Associate

Investigative Group International (IGI) is seeking applications for a Research Associate role. Successful applicants will support and advance the firm’s investigative mission by conducting in-depth public records, online, and archival research, synthesizing and analyzing their findings, and drafting client-facing summary reports, which will help inform our clients in a variety of complex and sensitive matters. See below for additional information.

Job Description:

Individual(s) in this position will conduct detailed online and public records research and distill their investigative findings into digestible analysis in close collaboration with researchers and senior personnel in support of the firm’s complex and often high-stakes investigations. IGI is a fast-paced and intensive professional environment, and successful researchers will be expected to quickly master and deploy a wide range of research tactics and strategies in the course of their work; adopt significant responsibility early on and exhibit discretion, sophistication, and dedication with respect to our clients’ privileged matters; and progress toward managing smaller investigations and aspects of larger matters.

Research Associates will regularly identify, collect, and conduct rigorous and detailed review of large amounts of public records and online materials, including financial reports and regulatory filings, real estate records, press materials, court documents and legal filings, and social media and online materials, among other sources. The ideal candidate is therefore a curious, creative, and dogged researcher who can locate, navigate, and extract useful information from a variety of databases and online repositories.

The position also entails a significant amount of writing, and the ideal candidate will be a competent and careful writer with the ability to effectively communicate complex fact situations with accuracy, clarity, and precision. Research Associates should also possess a capacity for finding, organizing, and presenting research; the technical aptitude to learn new skills and systems quickly; and the drive to solve nuanced and complex problems – sometimes all under tight deadlines.

This job is located in Washington D.C. and the salary is commensurate with experience.

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates for our Research Associate role:

·        Hold a bachelor’s degree, at minimum (graduate or professional degree preferred);

·        Possess experience (2+ years preferred) in a professional setting with analytical writing, legal research, database research (such as Lexis/Nexis, Factiva, and PACER), journalism, accounting, auditing, public records requests, open-source intelligence, and/or other relevant skillsets (foreign language skills are also desirable);

·        Display strong writing ability, with the capacity to learn IGI’s distinctive writing style and draft detailed yet digestible client-facing work product;

·        Work well both independently and collaboratively;

·        Display strong verbal and written communication skills, including discretion in handling privileged matters;

·        Employ end-to-end thinking, including the ability to grasp clients’ broader objectives and an inherent motivation to best achieve those objectives;

·        Exhibit a strong intellectual curiosity, including the desire to quickly develop proficiency in a variety of subjects and a tenacity in uncovering critical information and solving problems;

·        Are able to work on multiple projects at once and can adapt to changing timelines, priorities, and scopes of work.
