Subsurface Investigations and Waste Management Unit Chief - 5020303

This position will be located at Missouri Geological Survey, 111 Fairgrounds Road, Rolla, MO 65401

 

Responsibilities - What you’ll do

 

  • Apply scientifically based geologic and hydrologic principles to produce, review, and comment on hydrogeologic reports and investigations related to hazardous waste sites in Missouri.
  • Oversee activities and duties of a team of geologists.
  • Manage unit budgets.
  • Coordinate and communicate regularly with internal partners, consultants, other government agencies, and the public.
  • Attend internal, external, and public meetings.
  • Respond to inquiries related to geology, hydrology, and hazardous waste sites in Missouri.
  • Utilize ArcGIS and other computer-aided software and applications at a level required for detailed technical reviews, interpretation, evaluations relating to geology and hydrology, database maintenance, and project tracking.

 

Qualifications - All you need for success

 

This position is required to obtain and maintain licensure as a Missouri Registered Geologist. If you do not currently possess this license, you will be given one (1) year to obtain necessary licensure.

AND

  • Managing Performance: Takes responsibility for employees’ performance by setting and communicating expectations and goals that are specific and measurable, tracking progress against the goals, supporting employees’ efforts to achieve job goals (by providing resources, removing obstacles, acting as a buffer, etc.), ensuring feedback, and addressing performance problems and issues promptly.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology and have, at a minimum, 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of credit in geology including coursework required by the Missouri Board of Geologist Registration.
  • 4-6 years of experience with field investigations and oversight of drilling activities, geologic logging of boreholes, groundwater sampling and interpretation of analytical results; monitoring well drilling techniques and construction with at least 2 years of management and supervisory experience
  • Must have a valid Missouri Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to work outdoors and in all weather conditions, with some overnight travel required.
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS.

Training, certification, and/or education in continuous process improvement programs such as Lean Six Sigma as well as completion of Missouri Way, Leadership Academy, and similar programs is preferred.
