Nature Program Head
- Join a team of other Activity Heads learning and working within the structure of a well-established teaching system at a traditional overnight girls' camp in Maine
- Serve as the ‘lead’ instructor in classes and mentor and support the other staff in their teaching, through weekly meetings and conversations
- Design and develop, with guidance, a seven-week instructional program that typically includes, but is not limited to:
- exploration and discovery on camp’s 100 acres (including vernal pools, forest land, stream and lakeshore habitat)
- day hikes in the local area
- on and offsite overnight (group and solo) camping experiences
- fire building and outdoor cooking
- First Aid skills
- basic compass/map skills
- other areas of interest that staff want to include, e.g., gardening, plant and tree identification, raft building, etc.
Requirements
- Strong skills in the above areas
- Must be at least 19 years old
- Experience teaching and/or working with children in the outdoors
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Flexibility, creativity, and a willingness to listen and share ideas
- Desire to live a close-knit, positive camp atmosphere
- Minimum commitment dates: June 14th – August 14th, 2024
