Process Development Scientist, Mass Spectrometry (1691)

The Process Development department at New England Biolabs (NEB) is seeking an experienced, creative, and highly motivated mass spectrometry scientist to work in its protein characterization group. The successful candidate will both sustain the high level of quality in our existing protein products as well as ensure that new products meet the standards for which NEB is known. 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Identification of proteins and their PTMs by CID, ETD, and HCD.

Development and utilization of quantitation proteomic workflows (label-free, TMT, DIA, and related methodologies). 

Analysis of native proteins by IMS.

Implementation of immunochemical and chromatography-based affinity enrichment experiments.

Independently interpret and analyze data as well as organize and track test results.

Conduct routine maintenance on mass spectrometry instruments, maintain lab cleanliness, and adhere to all safety guidelines. 

 

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Master’s or Ph.D. degree in chemistry, biology, or related field.  Exceptional candidates with a bachelor’s degree and 8 years of relevant experience will be considered. 

Trained background in protein and peptide analyses by LC-MS and MS/MS.   Hands-on experience with HPLC/UPLC and MS instrumentation.  Preference given to individuals with direct experience using Q-Tof and Orbitrap instrumentation.

Hands-on experience with protein deconvolution and MS/MS data processing platforms.  Preference given to individuals familiar with UNIFI, Protein Metrics, Proteome Discoverer, and PEAKS software programs.

Skills in operating standard laboratory equipment including spectrophotometers, SDS-PAGE, centrifuges, and pipettes.

Experience performing laboratory-based tasks, which include reagent preparation, sample management, and proteolytic digests.

Strong record keeping skills and the ability to analyze, interpret and report results to management.

Have a working knowledge of MS Office applications, SAP and electronic lab software platforms (ELN, LIMS, etc.). 

The successful candidate must be able to effectively collaborate with others and have strong multi-tasking skills.
