Motorola interns work on real-world projects, gain exposure to cross-functional teams, develop business acumen and get to network with various levels of Executive leadership.  This paid internship is located in Chicago, IL and may require in-office attendance up to 5 days per week based on the responsibilities of your role.

About the Team:

Motorola’s Software Platform Security team is a group of software engineers and researchers focused on securing our Android-based smartphones.  We deal with all aspects of device security, including static and dynamic code analysis, code signing, and factory provisioning.  Every day we address and research cutting-edge problems in mobile security, bringing best-of-class protections to millions of users!

Description and Requirements

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Summer 2024 Intern to join our team and assist with securing our Android phones.  This internship offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with our talented engineering professionals, engage in problem-solving, and gain essential experience in security and privacy through Android platform and application development.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work to classify and understand the causes and mechanisms of Android security vulnerabilities and exploits
  • Reverse-engineer and analyze existing software components to discover and fix new vulnerabilities
  • Develop and enhance vulnerability scanning tools, protections, and penetration testing techniques
  • Research and measure emerging and existing threats to the mobile device ecosystem
  • Work to develop, deploy, and document novel security and privacy system(s) for Android-based smartphones

Basic Qualifications:

  • Pursuing BS degree in CS, CE, Cybersecurity or related field
  • Strong programming skills in one or more languages like Java, Python, C, C++, or MATLAB
  • Knowledge of mobile platform security threats and mitigation strategies
  • Familiarity with UNIX environments, security testing tools, and techniques

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pursuing MS/Ph.D. degree in CS, CE, Cybersecurity or related field
  • Experience with Android application and/or platform development
  • Knowledge of mobile platform security threats and mitigation strategies
  • Familiarity with cryptography and application of cryptographic protocols
  • Excellent interest in software code security or “white hat” hacking
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for technology
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges
