This paid internship is located in Chicago, IL and may require in-office attendance up to 5 days per week based on the responsibilities of your role.
About the Team:
Motorola’s Software Platform Security team is a group of software engineers and researchers focused on securing our Android-based smartphones. We deal with all aspects of device security, including static and dynamic code analysis, code signing, and factory provisioning. Every day we address and research cutting-edge problems in mobile security, bringing best-of-class protections to millions of users!
Description and Requirements
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Summer 2024 Intern to join our team and assist with securing our Android phones. This internship offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with our talented engineering professionals, engage in problem-solving, and gain essential experience in security and privacy through Android platform and application development.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Work to classify and understand the causes and mechanisms of Android security vulnerabilities and exploits
- Reverse-engineer and analyze existing software components to discover and fix new vulnerabilities
- Develop and enhance vulnerability scanning tools, protections, and penetration testing techniques
- Research and measure emerging and existing threats to the mobile device ecosystem
- Work to develop, deploy, and document novel security and privacy system(s) for Android-based smartphones
Basic Qualifications:
- Pursuing BS degree in CS, CE, Cybersecurity or related field
- Strong programming skills in one or more languages like Java, Python, C, C++, or MATLAB
- Knowledge of mobile platform security threats and mitigation strategies
- Familiarity with UNIX environments, security testing tools, and techniques
Preferred Qualifications:
- Pursuing MS/Ph.D. degree in CS, CE, Cybersecurity or related field
- Experience with Android application and/or platform development
- Knowledge of mobile platform security threats and mitigation strategies
- Familiarity with cryptography and application of cryptographic protocols
- Excellent interest in software code security or “white hat” hacking
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for technology
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges
