You will have a birds-eye view of how system change can be accomplished and will grow to understand the daily tasks and activities that will get us there.  

Interns learn about clean energy including how energy customers across all sectors, like Google, General Motors, Johnson & Johnson, and Citi are shifting the energy system, while building professional skills across a wide range of topics within the clean energy space. 

Internship Overview/Summary:  

As an intern with the Southeast Team at Market Policy and Innovation, you will support our engagement with Utility Commissions and State Legislatures. 

Core Intern Responsibilities: 

Organize and maintain repository of CEBA’s filings at state utility commissions in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee Valley Authority 

Conduct research in areas of resource adequacy, clean energy customer programs, and wholesale markets in the South and Southeast. 

Collaborate with the Southeast Team to identify key processes, workflow, and activities that require documentation.  

Conduct interviews and gather information from team members to understand existing procedures and practices. 

Write, edit, and format policy documents that adhere to the organizational standards and guidelines in areas of wholesale markets in the Southeast. 

Assist in creating templates, checklists, and visual aids to enhance the clarity of policy documents. 

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather input, validate procedures, and ensure consistency, including but not limited to the Transaction Accelerated Group and other programmatic teams involved in the Southeast. 

Support the Market and Innovation Team in other administrative tasks and projects as needed. 

Required Qualifications 

Strong written and verbal communication skills 

Eligible to work in the U.S. 

Interest in clean energy, utilities, or grid management. 

Preferred or Additional Qualifications: 

Partial completion of or graduate degree in public policy, environmental studies, business, political science, or engineering. 

Strong written and verbal communication skills. 

Excellent organizational skills and attention to details  

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint etc.) 

Strong research skills with the ability to synthesize complex information.  

Prior experience in technical writing or policy development is a plus.

Internship Structure: 

Physical Demands: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.  

Benefits: Interns are not eligible for benefits including health, dental, vision, paid time off, and paid sick time. Interns receive pro-rated holiday pay during CEBA’s organization-wide holidays. 

Educational credit: Eligibility for credit is determined by your educational institution. 

Schedule: 40 hours/week. Weekly schedule to be determined with your supervisor, capped at 40 hours.  

Orientation: All interns are required to virtually attend two welcome and orientation sessions. Exceptions may be considered after hire.  

Content: Interns work directly with CEBA’s programs and quickly become an important part of the team. You work with a Supervisor who guides daily work, and a Mentor who ensures a positive experience and continual growth. Interns will identify 2-3 key objectives which are intended to be met throughout the course of the internship, agreed upon with your Supervisor, to ensure a mutually beneficial internship experience.
