Media Director

COMPENSATION: $105/day

SUMMARY 

The Media Director provides supervision and oversight of Media Team operations at Camp Orkila on beautiful Orcas Island, WA. The Media Team is responsible for capturing and editing candid and posed photos and videos of staff and participants, creating media content, and managing social media accounts (including Instagram, Facebook, Smugmug, etc). Previous experience with video and photo equipment is required. The Media Director is supervised by the Deputy Directors and Summer Program Directors and performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  1. Supervises assigned seasonal staff by observing, coaching, providing feedback, evaluating, and assisting with problem solving.
  2. Documents campers, staff, and camp programming using photos and videos.  
  3. Edits photos and videos using editing software such as Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and Lightroom  
  4. Produces weekly content 
  5. Ensures equal representation of participants across all programs  
  6. Updates Camp Orkila’s media sites 
  7. Ensures content and social media benchmarks are being met. 
  8. Creates accurate staff schedules on a weekly basis.  
  9. Provides leadership and supervision to any developing teen leaders placed within the group.
  10. Manages camper and staff behaviors.
  11. Maintains high standards of housekeeping including bathrooms, cabins and main lodge.
  12. Assists in keeping all program equipment in working condition and available.
  13. Assists in maintaining all program areas in a safe and orderly condition.
  14. Attends staff meetings and trainings.
  15. Maintains relevant American Camping Association standards.
  16. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  17. Other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

This job operates at a seasonal residential camp, both inside and outdoors.  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  This position requires the ability to occasionally lift store or janitorial products and supplies, up to 50 pounds. 
 
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK 

This is a full-time position. The usual camp workweek is six day on and one day off, including training, staff meetings, and regular duties. 

TRAVEL 

This position is required to live onsite at camp.  

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

  1. 18 years of age or older  
  2. Current certifications in CPR and First Aid.  
  3. 2+ years of related experience with photography, videography, and editing software such as Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and Lightroom.  
  4. Demonstrate leadership skills. 
  5.  Must be able to work independently, exercise good judgment and demonstrate organizational skills. 
  6. Ability to relate to parents/caregivers, campers, and staff in a professional manner.  
  7. Ability to participate in activities that involve rigorous physical activity in an outdoor setting, including, but not limited to hiking, boating, camping, swimming.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

  • One or more years of education, training, and/or experience which provides the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position.
  • Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
  • Experience with anti-racism practices and coalition building.
