Publicity Assistant, PublicAffairs

The Basic Books Group is seeking a highly motivated Publicity Assistant to join our team. Our ideal candidate will have a strong interest in promoting nonfiction titles, excellent written and verbal communication skills, an ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, and a strong focus on details and deadlines. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Support Publicity team on a wide array of nonfiction titles
  • Create innovative press materials including press releases, pitch letters, and Q&A's
  • Provide support to the publicity department via general administrative responsibilities
  • Coordinate booksellers for all non-bookstore/off-site author events
  • Assist with organizing media and events for high profile authors, and conduct appropriate follow-up for select assigned titles
  • Build and maintain relationships with media and event venue contacts nationwide
  • Plans and executes media outreach for paperback conversions 

Qualifications:  

  • B.A. or equivalent college degree
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Proven interest in the book industry and news media
  • Knowledge of the full Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) is a plus
  • Prior publishing experience is a plus

The compensation range for this position is $47,500. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
