The opportunity

The Director, State Government Affairs will influence and execute Teva’s advocacy and reputational efforts in central and western U.S. with state policymakers and regulators, including state executives, state legislatures and relevant state regulatory agencies, to help shape the policy environment and marketplace. As one of Teva’s representatives before state government and non-government stakeholders, the Director, State Government Affairs acts in full alignment with Government Affairs, Legal, Compliance and Commercial functions. The position will interact daily with external government and trade association officials as well as other stakeholders focused on pharmaceutical policy at the state level.

 

*This is a fully remote opportunity. The ideal candidate will be located in CST, MST, or PST time zone.

 

Travel Requirements: Up to 50% domestic travel required depending on business need

 

How you’ll spend your day

  • Responsible for the execution of advocacy strategies and accountable for outcomes;
  • Identify key decision-makers and influencers in policy and political space; develop and nurture relationships leveraging all of Teva’s assets;
  • Position Teva as a constituent with state policymakers and regulators and represent Teva with decision makers and other health care advocacy stakeholders;
  • Optimize Teva’s influence on relevant policies and regulations with clear and measurable objectives;
  • Manage capabilities in lobbying, policy development and public affairs to secure positive outcomes for Teva and stakeholders;
  • Stakeholder mapping, ally development and coalition building;
  • Articulate, in concert with policy experts and Teva leaders, the company’s impact, relevance and value proposition to state policy makers and regulators;
  • Understand policy environment and intersections with Teva’s strategy and interests;
  • Identify critical opportunities and challenges in policy environment based on strategic business objectives and development;
  • Regular communication, information sharing and collaboration with colleagues with a focus on leveraging U.S. footprint;
  • Interface with third-party organizations which Teva partners with including trade associations, NGOs and patient-advocacy groups;
  • Hire and manage third party consultants as appropriate in key states as required to ensure they advocate Teva’s priorities and remain in compliance with Teva’s rules and values;
  • Manage budget and time with precision;
  • Represent Teva Political Action Committee in internal and external engagements.

Your experience and qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Graduate degree in law, business, public health, or public policy is preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of successful professional and leadership experience in government affairs and public policy required.
  • Experience within the biopharmaceutical and/or healthcare industries is required.
  • Experience in areas such as state legislative and/or executive roles, or state health policy is preferred.

  • Should be a self-starter who is comfortable working with a small team to maximize policy outcomes.
  • Must possess strong organizational and administrative skills and be energized by policy analysis and development.
  • Must have well-developed communication and diplomatic skills, able to approach often controversial topics and defend Teva’s commercial decisions.
  • Should possess exceptional market-focused business judgment, strong strategic analysis, and project management skills.
  • Should be results-driven, collaborative, confidential and trustworthy, open and honest and eager to take on difficult public policy topics on behalf of the company.
  • Must possess high ethical standards and be strongly committed to the mission and goals of Teva.
