Camp Staff / Head Leader

DUTIES:
- Assist with the operation of an eight-week summer recreation program for youths ages 6-12
- Plan and implement daily activities such as games, sports, crafts and special recreation events
- This position will take a leadership role in the planning and implementation of activities in specific age groups
- Parent interaction is required with this position
- Must attend weekly staff meetings, submit lesson plans, and complete weekly evaluations; other related duties that may apply
REQUIREMENTS:
- CPR and first aid certifications required prior to start of camp.
- Must work full eight-weeks of camp and one-week of staff orientation.
- Must enjoy working with children and demonstrate strong customer service skills
- Previous leadership experience preferred. Previous experience working in summer camps or with children highly desirable
- Educational background in recreation, education, physical education or related field preferred
HOURS:
- Monday-Friday 8am - 6pm, up to 40 hours work week during camp sessions

- Herndon Community Center, 814 Ferndale Avenue
Registration discount to Herndon Odyssey camp** for age-eligible children of temporary or PTF employees who are working directly to support the summer camp program(s). Including camp counselors, Head Counselors, Directors and Assistant Directors, Inclusion coordinator and leaders, Camp administrator, lifeguards for science, nature, dance, tennis, Odyssey, teen discovery. Contracted camp staff not included.
Can apply for up to 2 children*** of the staff member, 25% discount off the resident rate; only during employee’s scheduled work weeks; enrollment maximums apply, pre-registration required.
**Specialty camps are not included (dance, tennis, contracted camps, science, nature, etc)

25% off resident rate for a two-week session = $94. ($375/500); just under $50/week savings plus resident rate benefit.
