IT Help Desk Intern

Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is hiring an IT Help Desk Intern! 

Are you interested in getting into the IT field and looking to gain experience? We're looking for an IT Help Desk Intern excited about inspiring meaningful connections among people, plants, and nature in one of the most beautiful settings in Maine.  

The IT Help Desk Intern will support the IT & POS Specialist in managing all IT requests. This includes receiving, prioritizing, documenting, scheduling, resolving, or escalating IT requests. Problem resolution may involve the use of diagnostic and help-request tracking tools and/or require that the individual give in-person, hands-on help at the desktop level. This person exercises judgment and creativity in selecting and applying procedures correctly, and determines when to refer problems to the supervisor or next level of support.     

The internship program at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens includes experiential learning through a project guided by your supervisor, full day immersion sessions cross departmentally, group field trips, networking with interns across Maine, and opportunities to gain exposure to roles and responsibilities in various public garden departments. The IT Help Desk Intern will participate in parts of the full intern programming. They will work with their supervisor to determine which components of the intern program are most relevant and most interesting to them.    

This is a full-time, seasonal position requiring schedule flexibility for seasonal variations, weekends, and workload. The regular season is May through October, with the possibility of working through December.   

$15.75 - 18.00 per hour

Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens requires all team members to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a medical or religious exemption. 

Qualifications: 

  • High school graduate or equivalent with data processing training, computer operations training, or experience in a multi-operation system or production control environment preferred.    
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.    
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a focus on rapport-building, listening, and questioning skills.    
  • Ability to conduct research into a wide range of computing issues as required.    
  • Ability to absorb and retain information quickly.    
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.

  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Commitment to working across the organization to support the integration of IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access) principles into Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens’ internal operations and its relationships with visitors and guests. 

Primary Functions: 

  • Field incoming IT requests from users via phone, email, and SharePoint.   
  • Document all pertinent end-user identification information, including name, department, contact information, and nature of the problem or project.   
  • Prioritize and schedule requests and projects. Escalate problems to the IT & POS Specialist.   
  • Record, track, and document IT requests, including all successful and unsuccessful decisions made and actions taken, through to final resolution.   
  • Perform hands-on fixes and maintenance at the desktop level, including password resets, installing updates, installing some hardware, and assisting in events and class setup as requested through events calendar.    
  • Perform post-resolution follow-ups to IT requests.   
  • Help build and maintain the IT knowledge base by writing instructions and maintaining documents.   
  • Assist IT & POS Specialist in tasks and projects as needed.
