Internship –Finance

Full time, Non-Exempt

Summer (May 13-August 16)

Location: Hybrid

Description of Intern Work Responsibilities/Projects:

  • General accounting duties to assist the accounting and finance department:

o Accounts Receivable/Treasury

o Accounts Payable (expense report analysis)

o Billing and General Ledger

o Data Validation

o Month-end closings

o Applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports.

  • Contribute to the preparation of financial reports for internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Prepare spreadsheets to reconcile accounts to the general ledger.
  • Conduct ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as requested by management to support decision-making on specific projects and/or initiatives.
  • Assist in gathering data and information for the audit process and ad-hoc requests as needed

Specific Skills Required:

• Must be a current college student or undergraduate college student within one year post graduation

• Excellent communication and presentation skills.

• Good analytic and data gathering skills; able to synthesis data into information and present findings.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality.

• Knowledge of general office practices.

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.

• Positive attitude and the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment

 • Must be able to work independently on a project basis and meet frequent deadlines.

• Must have the ability to work a hybrid schedule (remote and in office).

• Attention to detail is essential in composing, typing and proofing materials.

• Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

Preferred Major: Pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.

LOCATION

WETA and NewsHour Productions are Washington, DC established media and news organizations.  We are a largely local workforce based out of the Campbell Place office in Arlington, VA.  WETA and NewsHour Productions value employee flexibility when possible.  Most positions based in our Arlington, VA office will be onsite or hybrid, depending upon the role.
