Commissioning Engineer Intern

 

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Commissioning Engineer Intern for employment in our Glen Allen, Virginia office. 

This position is expected to begin in May 2024.

The Commissioning Engineer Intern will support new construction building commissioning and existing building retro-commissioning projects. The candidate will interface daily with both design and construction professionals as well as clients, trade contractors, and facility managers. The position requires 50% onsite presence during the installation, startup, and functional testing of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems. 

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Possess project-specific knowledge of the program’s commissioning requirements as defined in the project specifications and commissioning plan.
  • Assists in the development, coordination, and execution of the design phase, construction phase, testing/training phase, warranty phase activities, and final commissioning report.
  • Attends and actively participates in project coordination meetings.
  • Records and distributes commissioning coordination meeting minutes.
  • Review shop drawings and equipment submittals.
  • Develops Pre-functional Construction Checklists.
  • Develops Functional Test Procedures.
  • Performs Construction/Installation Observations.
  • Evaluate equipment and building control/SCADA system installations concerning contract documents and industry standards.
  • Provides detailed daily construction observation reports or as required when working on a project location.
  • Witnesses and reports on piping hydrostatic testing and duct air leakage testing.
  • Witnesses Startup Procedures.
  • Witnesses Functional Test Procedures.
  • Assists in Troubleshooting.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university program pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, Construction, or Architectural Engineering with the intent to continue aftter the internship, unless graduating.
  • Candidates must have completed one year of study in their program.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to learn quickly.
  • Good problem-solving skills.

  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
  • Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.
  • This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in-office work in Glen Allen, VA as well as various job site locations.
  • Offered rate of compensation (Virginia locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The hourly range for this position is $20.00 – $25.00/hr.
