The Sun Country Golf Foundation, founded in 1999, is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and philanthropic arm of the alliance between the Sun Country PGA Section and the Sun Country Amateur Golf Association.  Our Foundation impacts lives through golf through three pillars of focus: Youth, Military, and Inclusion.

The Sun Country PGA is one of the 41 Sections of the PGA of America, which is the world’s largest working sports organization, comprised of 29,000 men and women golf Professionals who are the recognized experts in teaching and growing the game.  The SCPGA consists of approximately 200 PGA Professionals in New Mexico and West Texas, who are committed to serving our communities and growing the game of golf. 

The Sun Country Amateur Golf Association provides administrative services for all amateurs playing in the geographic area of New Mexico and West Texas.  Our purpose is to promote trust and friendly relationships among member golf courses, developing golf-related educational programs, conducting tournaments, and administering golf’s World Handicap System.

OPPORTUNITY:  The Sun Country Gol Foundation is offering an opportunity for individuals to gain valuable insight into the administrative aspect of the golf business by hiring a candidate from a historically underrepresented group to work on its team for a one-year (12 months) term.  Underrepresented groups to be considered include the following protected classes: gender, age, race/color, national origin / ancestry, sexual orientation, disability, and Veteran status; although, everyone is welcome to apply.  Ultimately, the Sun Country Golf Foundation desires to establish a network of underrepresented talent that is prepared to ascend to key employment positions in the game and business of golf.

JOB TITLE:  Sun Country Golf Foundation PGA WORKS Fellow

JOB DESCRIPTION:  The primary focus of this position will be to assist the Sun Country Golf Foundation in executing its initiatives in the Youth, Military, and Inclusion pillars. Examples include:

  • YOUTH Pillar:
    • PGA Jr. League – PGAJL a fun, social and inclusive opportunity for boys and girls ages 17 and under to learn and enjoy the game of golf. Much like other recreational league sports, participants wear numbered jerseys and play on teams with their friends. The children learn the game among their peers with PGA Professional instruction and direction from PGA/LPGA Professionals who serve as team captains. Parents also play an active role, making the program a family activity and creating another generation of players to enjoy the game.
    • Youth on Course – YOC provides children the opportunity to try and enjoy the game of golf for as little as $5 per round at participating golf courses.
    • Sun Country Junior Tour – The SCGT conducts approximately 40 tournaments per year for junior golfers age 7-18.
    • Drive Chip & Putt – DCP provides juniors the opportunity to participate in a nationwide contest where they can live their dream and be a part of the national championship at Augusta National Golf Club during the week of The Masters Tournament.
  • MILITARY Pillar:
    • PGA HOPE Program – PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) is the flagship military program of PGA REACH, designed to introduce golf to Veterans with disabilities to enhance their physical, mental, social, and emotional wellbeing.
  • INCLUSION Pillar
    • PGA WORKS – PGA WORKS is a workforce diversification strategic initiative designed to evolve the demographic composition of the golf industry workforce and develop a robust pool of talent from historically underrepresented backgrounds who are prepared to ascend to key employment positions in the business of golf.

JOB DUTIES: 

  • Communications, logistics, site and participant recruitment, promotions, scheduling, partner (sponsor) activation, budgeting, billing, and event execution.
  • Ensure that Foundation activities are documented and reported to national PGA REACH (the PGA of America’s Foundation), the USGA, Youth on Course, media outlets, and other relevant parties.
  • Assisting the fundraising efforts of the Sun Country Golf Foundation as needed.
  • As needed, assist in the operation of some SCPGA and SCAGA events, meetings, and other operations.   Exposure to these items will help provide a well-rounded experience in golf association administration.
  • Assist Sun Country Golf House and PGA WORKS (national) in the awareness of the PGA WORKS Fellowship to help attract new candidates for the Santa Ana Pueblo PGA WORKS Fellowship.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Undergraduate Degree (within the last 12-18 months)
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills required
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Word & Excel and the Google Workspace
  • Skills in social media marketing and communications
  • Well organized, punctual, and energetic
  • Ability to work in a team environment and travel within the region
  • Ability to work overtime to include weekends
  • Ability to be flexible

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • The employee must be able to drive the company vehicle/van/truck (sometimes with a trailer) and/or drive to and from various locations throughout the region.

LOCATION:  Sun Country Golf House is located in Rio Rancho, NM, just north of Albuquerque. The area we serve and travel to includes all of New Mexico and portions of West Texas.

START DATE:  Spring of 2024.  Specific start date dependent on candidate’s availability. Will consider candidates graduating in May.

SALARY: During the 12-month Fellowship you will receive approximately $2,600/mo. (paid hourly at $15/hr.) plus benefits to include: housing stipend of $400/mo., health insurance reimbursement of up to $350/mo. (unless employee has existing coverage without out-of-pocket expenses), mobile phone stipend of $30/mo., paid holidays, and five days (40 hours) vacation.  Potential performance bonus at the end of the 12-month term.  The Foundation will cover event-related travel expenditures (hotel, meals, etc.) while on assignment.  Golf playing & practice privileges are available at area golf courses.
