Summer Intern/DMPK Modeling

Department Description:

Drug Metabolism & Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) Group is responsible for integrating the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination (ADME) characteristics of drug candidate molecules from in vitro, pre-clinical and clinical information. More specifically DMPK Modelling group provides in vitro to in vivo translation, human dose predictions, and clinical using compartmental pharmacokinetics (PK) and physiologically based pharmacokinetics (PBPK) and pharmacodynamics (PD).

Job Description:

This position will allow the selected candidate to develop their PBPK modeling skills within the DMPK modelling group. The PBPK scientist will have the opportunity to learn about PBPK applications from early discovery to late-stage drug development. Along with other DMPK team members, this scientist will collaborate across various cross-functional teams such as toxicology, biology, chemistry, clinical pharmacology, and formulations and will contribute to the application of model informed drug development strategies.

Responsibilities to include (but not limited to):

  • Independently build and validate PBPK drug-disease population models to support evaluation of impact of disease on the ADME for small/large molecules and/or new modalities.
  • Present modelling outputs in internal team and/or department meetings as well as the opportunity to publish any completed work.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a MS or PhD in Mathematics, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, or other DMPK-related science disciplines.
  • Able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the 12-week internship cycle (May/June - August).
  • Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with application of PBPK software SimCYP.
  • Basic knowledge of DMPK processes in drug discovery and development.
  • Basic understanding of the in vitro/ in vivo experiments used to describe general ADME principles especially drug absorption and drug distribution.
  • Scientific writing and presentation ability with excellent verbal communication skills.

Candidates who are hired for an on-site role or hybrid role, and reside outside of 50-miles from their assigned work location, are eligible for relocation stipend.
