Summary of Job Description: 

Based in Shrewsbury, MA, McLaren & Associates CPAs, PC is growing a CPA team that is seeking creative individuals who can help clients succeed and prosper in today’s complex business environment. Under the direction of the Bookkeeping Supervisor, this position is responsible for performing a variety of bookkeeping and accounting duties. Such duties include processing payroll, financial record keeping and transactions including but not limited to: accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger and monthly reconciliation. Desired individual will have advanced experience with QuickBooks, demonstrate professionalism and tact in communications with a diversity of individuals, strong organizational and time management skills, acute attention to detail and ability to work well with clients and team members. 

Qualifications and Job Requirements:

  • Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks preferred.
  • Complete understanding of Debits and Credits in accounting
  • Associate degree (AA/AS) or equivalent; two years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Additional proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; ability to manage priorities and workflow.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Good judgment, with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
  • Ability to learn new systems/processes.
  • Good team player.
  • Able to work over 40 hours during busy season. 
  • Able to be in the office at least twice a week 
  • Able to work on multiple clients within a single day.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintains multiple clients’ bookkeeping accurately & timely.
  • Processes payroll for payroll clients. Processes various QuickBooks reports in a timely manner.
  • Prepares and processes checks for monthly bills and employee reimbursements in an accurate and timely manner; ensures that all expenditures are appropriately categorized.
  • Reconciles bank accounts and provides reports to clients as needed.
  • Proactively maintains a highly organized filing system, files invoices, payroll paperwork, reimbursements, and other financial records. 
  • Demonstrates a high level of professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of systems and procedures as needed.
  • Assists with special projects or does research when required.
  • Answer phones as necessary.
  • Performs other duties that may be asked of them by other departments.
  • Prepares 1099’s and W2’s for year-end accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Records payroll for clients including breakout of employee and employer taxes accurately. 
  • Assists in the recording of trial balances for business tax returns during tax season.
  • Prepares sales tax returns accurately and in a timely manner for clients on a monthly basis.
  • Prepares and files additional state filings for client such as Annual Reports, extensions, dissolutions, business registrations, etc.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $46,000 - $ 56,500

Monday to Friday (Saturdays during tax season and as needed)
