Arts Administration Apprentice at Trinity Rep
Trinity Repertory Company’s apprenticeship program offers intensive professional training at a Tony Award-winning regional theater. Apprentices are an integral part of our theater company and serve alongside our staff in artistic, administrative, and production-based departments.
The apprentice program is looking for artists and professionals ages 21 and up who are hoping to launch careers in theater. Apprentices will learn on the job for approximately 35 weeks.

Apprentices will not be able to work in other positions at the theater during their contracted 35 weeks, but overtime may be required on occasion and will be compensated at time and a half. Depending on their schedule, apprentices may be able to take additional work outside the theater as long as it does not interfere with their hours at Trinity Rep.

ARTS ADMINISTRATION APPRENTICE
Trinity Rep is seeking a self-motivated and detail-oriented individual interested in gaining hands-on experience with a professional non-profit theater company. Reporting jointly to the Director of Institutional Advancement and Director of Finance & Administration, this apprenticeship blends practical experience in fundraising and financial management with a strong foundation in communication, collaboration, and organizational mission alignment. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone seeking to learn more about the intricacies of theater management from senior leadership at Trinity Rep.
In support of the development team, the apprentice will:
Participate in weekly meetings and strategy sessions
Research prospective donors and funders
Help develop written grant proposal language
Track program participation and project impact to support grant requests and reports
Assist with planning and execution of special events, including opening nights, cultivation events, and galas
Support donor communication and correspondence
Support record keeping, gift entry, database maintenance, and reporting needs
Other special projects as assigned
In support of finance and administration, the apprentice will:
Participate in weekly meetings
Support financial reconciliations and matching expense backup
Generate and analyze financial reports with the Director of Finance and Administration
Participate in any needed preparation for the annual audit process
Support preparation of the annual budget
Support data entry and analysis in the accounting software
Participate in preparation of tax returns
Assist with job descriptions and postings for entire company as needed
Contribute to on-boarding materials for next season’s apprenticeship class based on feedback
Other special projects as assigned
Learning Objectives:
Acquire Fundraising Experience: Develop a comprehensive understanding of fundraising strategies and tactics. Gain firsthand experience in prospect research and proposal development
Enhance Financial Management Understanding: Learn to navigate day-to-day financial operations, including budgeting, invoicing, and expense tracking. Assist in the preparation of financial reports and statements for various stakeholders
Strengthen Communication and Collaboration Skills: Build persuasive communication skills through the creation of grant proposals and reports. Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
Develop Proficiency in Customer Relationship Management (CRM) System: Attain proficiency in Trinity Rep’s Salesforce-based CRM (PatronManager), ensuring accuracy and completeness of donor records and understanding logic behind report creation. Support data-driven decision making within the development and finance departments
Cultivate Compliance Knowledge: Participate in preparation for the annual audit process, gaining insight into non-profit compliance and documentation requirements
Apply Cross-Functional Problem Solving: Engage in collaborative problem-solving by working across departments to gather information and support initiatives
Understanding Non-Profit Operations: Develop a deep understanding of a professional theater company’s business operations
Qualifications:
21+ years of age
Strong communication skills and attention to detail
Self-starting and able to work independently on projects
Interest in collaborating in a team environment
Experience with Microsoft Office suite (Word and Excel) preferred
Physical Demands:
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for a prolonged period
Ability to climb/descend stairs to navigate theater and offsite event spaces
