Teaching Assistant for Children's Art Programs
New Art Center in Newtonville seeks responsible Teaching Assistants (TAs) to work with summer art program students grades in grades 1-7 as they attend 5 classes each day (2D, 3D, Ceramics, Movement and Drama). TAs will assist teaching staff, prepare materials, oversee lunch and snack breaks, and help provide safe and creative environments for a group of up to 12 students each week.
- Supervise children in grades 1-7 throughout the camp day (8:45 am - 4:15 pm), ensuring that all students are safe and happy, including during class, snack, lunch, and recess
- Take daily attendance
- Escort children to and from each class, adhering to camp schedule times, and around the building as needed
- Engage with students and encourage creativity, relationship building, and fun
- Handle small behavioral issues, including mediating student conflict, alerting supervisory staff for larger issues
- Stay present and be aware of students at all times
- Communicate with classroom Instructors to provide support for students and instructors during studio classes
- Assist students with cleanup and use of materials
- Adhere to Employee Handbook and organization policies
Applicants must have 2-3 years experience working with elementary school children in direct care, school, museum or community program settings. College level coursework or a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, art, art education, or fine/performing arts required. The ideal candidate will be outgoing, self-motivated, creative and enthusiastic. Applicants must be 18 and older.
Dates:
Attend 1-2 training sessions in May and/or June
Summer sessions: June 17- August 23 (this program operates on a week by week session structure. TAs can commit to up to 8 weeks of the summer program)
Times: 8:45 am - 4:15 pm
Rate: starting rate of $17/hr (or commensurate with experience).
