Position Summary

The Credits & Incentives Intern (C&I Intern) supports DMA’s Credits & Incentives team with site selection analysis, incentive research, incentive procurement and other incentives consulting services. The C&I Intern will also support strategic internal initiatives including marketing and communication efforts. The C&I Intern can expect to learn how businesses and real estate developers engage with municipal and state governments to enable capital projects. The C&I Intern will support proposals and presentations and may have the opportunity to observe public meetings as a part of an incentive procurement process.

Learning Objectives

The C&I Intern will gain an understanding of how private businesses interact with governmental and non-governmental entities to enable valuable economic development projects. As a part of the program, the C&I Intern will have the opportunity to lead a mock project, including evaluation of site alternatives, preparation of requests for proposal (RFP) for economic development entities, incentive negotiations and presentation a project for incentive approval in a mock public meeting. The C&I Intern will get experience in a variety of industries which may include real estate development utilities, renewables, manufacturing, R&D and more.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participates in credits & incentives procurement projects for DMA clients
  • Assists with incentive compliance deadlines, data collection, data review and reporting
  • Researches, documents and assesses available incentive opportunities
  • Gains knowledge of state, local, federal and utility incentives
  • Supports team members in execution of client projects
  • Communicates with state, local and other economic development officials
  • Collects, analyzes and manages client data
  • Assists in completion of incentive applications
  • Prepares presentations and reports
  • Observes and contributes to incentive negotiations and approvals

Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree track in accounting, finance, economics, real estate or related field
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid Driver’s License
