Paralegal/Legal Assistant

Sivin, Miller & Roche, LLP is a small civil rights and criminal defense firm focused on achieving justice for victims of police misconduct and brutality, wrongful convictions, and inmate abuse, as well as defending the rights and liberties of individuals facing criminal prosecution. The firm is seeking a full-time legal assistant/paralegal who will:

 

  • Gain first hand exposure to legal remedies in the field of civil rights law, including but not limited to the commencement of litigation, the discovery process, and the taking of depositions.

 

  • Manage day-to-day office operations, including fielding calls from clients, scheduling and keeping track of court appearances and depositions, requesting records from relevant courts and agencies, preparing legal documents, and filing documents with state and federal courts, among other tasks.

 

  • Be tasked with fielding inquiries from prospective clients, identifying strong potential cases, and conducting in-office intakes of prospective clients.

 

  • Actively participate in each step of the trial process, including but not limited to trial strategy planning, exhibit preparation, providing feedback on negotiations, and second-seating senior trial attorneys throughout jury selection and trial.

 

Qualifications:

  • Position requires a two-year commitment.
  • Strong academic record and writing skills.
  • Multitasking and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated passion for civil rights / social justice.
  • Ability to handle sensitive subject matter.
  • Spanish language is a plusbut is not required.
