Data Science Internship

**This internship is for summer 2024**

This paid internship is in-person in our Wakefield office location two (2) days per week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays) and one day virtual.

The Purpose of Your Role:
In this role, you will learn how to drive data-informed decisions. As an intern, you will actively engage in hands-on data analysis, model development, and interpretation of results to display the potential impact of data science in informing business decisions. Reporting to the Business Intelligence department, your responsibilities will include cleaning and transforming raw data, building and fine-tuning machine-learning models, and assisting in the implementation of data-driven solutions. This internship provides a unique opportunity to substantiate the value of incorporating data science methodologies, contributing directly to the enhancement of our business intelligence capabilities and paving the way for future data-driven initiatives at Sentinel.

What you'll bring to Sentinel:

  • Basic understanding of fundamental machine-learning models such as linear regression, logistic regression, decision trees, and k-nearest neighbors.
  • Ability to convey technical findings to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring clear understanding and alignment between data insights and business objectives.
  • Become familiar with business processes at a technical level.
  • Capacity to analyze and interpret complex data sets, and skill in creating meaningful visualizations to communicate insights to stakeholders.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new tools, technologies, and methodologies in the evolving field of data science.
  • Capability to work within a team, collaborating with cross-functional departments and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.

What you’ll be responsible for:

  • Conduct data cleaning, preprocessing, and transformation tasks to ensure data quality.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of machine learning models.
  • Collaborate with team members to gather and understand business requirements for data analysis projects.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights.
  • Contribute to the creation of data visualizations and reports for stakeholders.
  • Assist in designing and conducting experiments to test hypotheses and analyze results.
  • Stay updated on the latest developments in data science and machine learning techniques.
  • Document and communicate findings, methodologies, and insights to team members.
  • Participate in team meetings, providing updates on project progress and discussing potential improvements.

About you: 
To be successful as a Sales Intern, you should be willing to learn as much about the company as possible and be able to spot opportunities that have been overlooked by others. Outstanding sales interns are problem solvers who know the value of building lasting, professional relationships with clients. Through this role, Sentinel wants recruit and train the next generation of financial sales professionals. Gain valuable experience through direct exposure to real world situations as well as support through mentorship and professional training.

Preferred qualifications:

  • You are entering junior or senior year of college.
  • High school diploma or similar.
  • Strong self-motivation.
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team.
  • Ability to garner insights from data sets that others might miss
  • A curious and scientific mind
  • Superb interpersonal skills.
