STD Prevention and Control Intern

Project: STD Prevention and Control for Health Departments, Health Communication Project

Organization: Bureau of Infectious Disease and Laboratory Science, Division of STD Prevention & HIV Surveillance 

The intern will support DSTDP’s health communication objectives (as delineated in the Federal Strengthening STD Prevention and Control for Health Departments (PCHD) Grant)  and assist in the production, coordination, and promotion of STD prevention by ensuring the provision of accessible, up-to-date STD prevention information to the public through the DSTDP landing page on the official Mass.gov site including STD facts and answers to common STD questions (e.g., symptoms, testing methods, treatment, and places where testing and treatment are available), clinician-specific resources, and state-level STD data, etc. The intern will also be responsible for conducting monthly review of STD content on Mass.gov, convening Division meetings with Division Director and others to discuss website priorities, and liaise with the Office of Healthcare Planning to ensure information is accessible (508-compliant).

Skills Required: The intern should possess strong written and oral communication skills, be self-motivated, and possess a passion for advancing health communication and promoting healthy behaviors. The intern should have baseline knowledge of the principles of public health.

Hours Per Week: 20
Preferred Eligibility: Associates and Bachelors students
Preferred Academic Experience: Public health, Health communication, Health promotion, Epidemiology majors, and related areas of study
