Since our start in 1916, we have been driven by our promise to save lives using the latest technologies.

Today, CSL – including our three businesses, CSL Behring, CSL Seqirus and CSL Vifor – provides lifesaving products to patients in more than 100 countries and employs 32,000 people. Our unique combination of commercial strength, R&D focus and operational excellence enables us to identify, develop and deliver innovations so our patients can live life to the fullest.

Program Experience

CSL’s Internship Program is a hands-on experience that showcases the daily innovation and operations of a leading biotechnology company. Our environment is collaborative, global, and purpose-driven. The 12-week experience will immerse students in meaningful, thought-provoking projects that contribute to CSL's promise to save lives and protect the health of people around the world. In addition to making an impact, students will develop personally and professionally while cultivating meaningful relationships.

The BPD (biopharmaceutical product development) department is seeking a talented bioinformatician to transform and interrogate next-generation sequencing (NGS) data, contributing to the development of self-amplifying mRNA (sa-mRNA) platform technology and process.

Main Responsibilities

This role is located in Waltham, MA, with potential start date of July 2024. As a Bioinformatics Intern, you will gain experience in manipulating, querying, visualizing, and interpreting large amounts of NGS data that will lead to understanding of sa-mRNA sequence-structure-function relationship at key steps during the sa-mRNA product development process.

NGS data analysis: Process large amounts of NGS data using existing bioinformatics tools, as well as writing and running your own NGS analysis tools and pipelines.

Develop biological hypotheses: Extract sa-mRNA structural and stability information at nucleotide-resolution and facilitate new sa-mRNA sequence design to improve function.

Collaboration: Work collaboratively with a fast-growing team of biologists, chemists, and engineers.

Presentation: Report progress and findings to relevant team members and stakeholders.

Documentation: Document code, models, and best practices to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration within the team.

Stay Informed: Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in the field of bioinformatics and integrate new techniques where appropriate.

Professional Development: Engage in learning opportunities offered during the internship.

Qualifications:

• Seeking Graduate student currently enrolled full-time in a Master’s/PhD Program, or Senior in undergraduate program in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science or a related field.

• 1 year of programming experience (Python preferred) and GitHub repository to showcase skills.

• Completion of a course in statistical analysis or equivalent.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies.

• Previous experience in life sciences or pharmaceutical industry is preferred.

• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
