Summer Intern, Europe Center

Description

Our interns are an integral part of the Europe Center. Team projects are all-hands-on-deck. The Europe Center seeks to understand change in Europe, galvanize leadership, and forge a strategy of renewal, deepening the Atlantic Council’s impact in an area that has always been central to our mission. The center conducts cutting-edge research and high-level convening to help engagement between policymakers, economic leaders, and citizens on both sides of the Atlantic, promote rising leaders, and develop common solutions to defend our liberal democracies. 

This position will expose the candidate to the logistical and administrative elements of event-planning, the writing process for publications and articles, and designing strategic initiatives within a think tank. The intern will assist in the Europe Center’s programming, as well as development tasks and outreach to its close network of Europe experts, officials, and thought leaders. 

Successful candidates will have a passion for European affairs, an entrepreneurial ethos, and a collegial spirit while also being an effective communicator, and a desire to learnand grow in an organization. Demonstrated interest in Europe, the European Union, and transatlantic relations through classwork and/or experience is preferred.

This internship is based in our Washington, DC headquarters on a hybrid schedule. Interns will receive an hourly rate of $17.50 per hour.

 

Responsibilities

  • Handle logistics for Council events and activities of the Europe Center’s programming.
  • Organize and consolidate prep materials for various meetings, appointments, speaking engagements, and public appearances.
  • Help manage the operations and administrative functions of the Europe Center.
  • Manage program contacts and networks.
  • Support Center outreach as needed.
  • Draft correspondence and take notes at Council roundtables and strategy sessions.
  • Conduct research for Europe Center staff and fellows as needed to support the activities of the Europe Center, including meetings, speeches, articles, task force reports, and policy briefs.

 

Qualifications

  • Must be at least a college junior in good standing, a graduate student, or a recent graduate, preferably majoring in international affairs or another relevant field.
  • Demonstrable interest in transatlantic relations, the Atlantic community, and the core mission of the Atlantic Council. Demonstrated knowledge of the EU and member state affairs highly desired.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written – live and virtual), including the ability to identify and work through challenges, underscored by strong judgment and emotional intelligence.
  • Aptitude and strong skills in research, and writing, and logistics for events.
  • Strong analytical, planning, time management, and organizational skills required.
  • Proficiency in a European language preferred.
  • Availability to work 40 hours per week is also strongly preferred.
