Economic Development Officer, Special Projects

The City of New Haven is seeking a dynamic Economic Development Officer/Special Projects professional to join our team. As an Economic Development Officer, you will collaborate with the Economic Development Administrator or designee on innovative projects that contribute to the city's economic prosperity. From downtown revitalization to transportation initiatives and environmental sustainability, you will play a vital role in shaping New Haven's future. 

If you have a Master’s Degree in Planning, Economics, or a related field, along with a strong background in economic or community development, we encourage you to apply. Work involves assisting the director in planning, organizing, packaging and implementing specific economic development programs, dealing with downtown development, harbor, port, transportation, environment, public investments and other related matters.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS include:

A Master’s Degree in Planning, Economics or other related field and at least two years of experience in economic development or community development.

  • Considerable experience in urban planning and economic implementation;
  • Thorough knowledge of development principles, common practices and financing;
  • Considerable knowledge of municipal government structure and governmental relations;
  • Considerable knowledge of local, state and federal legislation, especially economic development financing programs and applications procedures;
  • Ability to take a complicated developmental problem from its inception and carry it throughout analysis, planning, packaging, financing and implementation.
