Intern, Development & Community Events-Houston, TX

The American Heart Association has an internship opportunity in our Houston, TX office for a college student or recent graduate for a hands-on experience in various facets of event planning and implementation. Our internships offer the opportunity to gain professional experience with a national non-profit organization, further develop communication and presentation skills, and experience skills in team collaboration and customer service.

Internship Overview:

  • Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week
  • Internship Duration: 5/20/24 – 8/9/24
  • Intern must be based in Houston, TX, or the immediate surrounding area
  • Salary: $23.00 per hour

Responsibilities

Tasks could include things like the following:

  • Assist with the logistics and timeline management for multiple community events including vendor scheduling, inventory and ordering of decorations/signage, supply ordering/tracking, and more.
  • Learn and support invoice coordination and contract processing.
  • Assist in coordinating and communicating with event staff.
  • Working with the team on event volunteer recruitment.
  • Work cohesively with vendors by supporting pre-event communications, handling, and organizing vendor databases, and being their point of contact during events.
  • Day of event assistance to the Director of Events.
  • Event photographer booking and management.
    • Shot lists, photo receipts, and organization.
  • Assistance in all meeting preparation.



 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an educational or professional setting in the event industry
  • Management, implementation, and execution of events ranging from 250 people to 1,000+ people preferred.
  • Effective oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to work professionally with colleagues and professional volunteers.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment handling multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
  • Meeting management and event management including set up, outlook invitations, copies, catering, logistics, and meeting minutes.
  • Knowledge of business letter writing format, style, and protocol.
  • Intermediate use of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.
  • Basic knowledge of Canva is a plus.
  • Required Equipment: Reliable WiFi Connection.
  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between 8:30am-5pm, with additional weekday evening events, and some weekend events TBD.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future.  For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
