Research Associate - Climate Change Podcast

Harvard Business School (HBS) is seeking an ambitious, strategic, and creative Research Associate, Podcast Producer for the HBS Business & Climate Change podcast, Climate Rising. Guided by the faculty host, the RA will conduct research to identify podcast topics and guests, and to develop detailed background notes to prepare the host. The role includes substantial editing to create research-based, accurate, relevant content as well as project management to maintain high production value throughout the content creation process, from conceptualization through publishing and marketing.

Job Responsibilities:

Research, Editing, Content Creation (50%)

  • With the host, research and identify a portfolio of podcast topics and potential guests.
  • Develop research materials and a preliminary set of interview questions to enable the host to prepare efficiently and effectively.
  • During interviews, listen to conversation and feed additional questions to the host as needed.
  • Together with the faculty host, edit each episode.
  • Develop intro and outro scripts for the host.
  • Develop episodes’ descriptions, titles, and show notes.


Project Management (40%)

  • Serve as the project manager to ensure efficient coordination and content production, including managing the audio production process, overseeing timelines and calendars, transferring of audio assets between editors, and reviewing and publishing podcast episodes.
  • Manage external partners including the audio engineer, marketing partners, and guests.
  • Manage interview scheduling and the recording equipment, recording studio reservations, and ensuring availability of sound engineers for interview recording and timely turnaround of edits.
  • With the host, manage an efficient and effective editing process.
  • Manage approval process from guests and host.


Marketing (10%)

  • Coordinate with marketing partners to market each episode on social media and other platforms, and monitor effectiveness.
  • Maintain podcast website and social media presence.
  • Develop social media and marketing materials, including working with internal and external
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned.
     

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Digital Media, Climate Studies, Sustainability, and/or related area is required.
  • Advanced degree preferred, with a minimum of 7+ years related work experience desired.
     

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge—and ideally professional experience—of how companies are pursuing opportunities and/or managing risks while adapting to and mitigating climate change.
  • Storytelling experience, preferably in radio/podcasts, or else other media.
  • Podcast development experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Social media content promotion a plus.
  • Key skills include the abilities to: conceptualize, work effectively on a team while also working independently, productively receive and incorporate feedback, be detail oriented, and engage in project management including being accountable for meeting deadlines.
     

Additional Information

This is a part-time term appointment (20-30 hours weekly) beginning as soon as possible (start date flexible) through June 30, 2025 with likely reappointment for the next academic year and further. Preference for a candidate willing to commit for two or more years. All Research Associate roles at HBS are structured as one-year term appointments with potential for renewal based on funding and performance. 

This role is offered as a hybrid (some combination of onsite and remote) where you are required to be onsite at our Boston, MA based campus 2-4 days per week. Specific days and schedule will be determined between you and your manager.

We may conduct candidate interviews virtually (phone and/or via Zoom) and/or in-person for this role.
