DAS Deputy (Operations) Director

Full-time, Hybrid

Salary Range: $93,017.60 - $137,779.20/yr

 

Job Summary

The DAS Deputy (Operations) Director works with the DAS Director to build mission-focused, performance-driven, cost effective, integrated systems of services that advance the department’s strategic plan. Objectives including building internal and external alignment to advance employee engagement, operational excellence, customer service and racial equity. The role includes oversight, strategic guidance, and support for three work areas (Economic Inclusion, Procurement and Risk Management) with a goal of create equitable, efficient, and effective outcomes for customer departments and Milwaukee County.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Leadership - Provide direction, oversight and strategic guidance and support to the following work areas: Economic Inclusion, Procurement, and Risk Management. Assure strong leadership presence, accountability, and support for work areas. Provide strategic connections and identify and implement sustainable upstream solutions that ensure consistent, equitable and mission-aligned results. 
  • Operational Functions for the Department - In coordination with the DAS Director, provide strategic and operational leadership including complex initiatives related to financial management, staffing, continuous improvement, change management, project management, brand management and communications within DAS and in partnership with other Milwaukee County departments.
  • Outreach and Collaboration - Liaison and build relationships with the Board of Supervisors, Human Resources, Corporation Counsel, and other county partners as needed. Support board reporting, audit responses, open record requests, process improvement and customer service initiatives.
  • Advance DAS Mission, Vision, and Values within Department - Lead efforts to build and sustain an equitable and engaged employee culture. Provide and implement innovative approaches to improve employee inclusion, career development, succession planning, hiring, and management.
  • Performance Management – Lead the development of DAS’s Performance Management and Accountability systems. Develop goals, track, and monitor department key performance indicators to inform progress. Perform and manage high level analysis of complex issues that impact the department and Milwaukee County.
  • Special Projects - Lead and advance special projects within DAS or to support departmental and county goals. When necessary, build, lead, and participate on interdisciplinary work teams. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education, License/Certification and Experience

  • Valid Driver’s License and a reliable insured vehicle are required and must be maintained throughout incumbency
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a closely related field required
  • Five (5) years or more of related work experience required
  • Three (3) years or more of work experience in a Supervisory, Management or Director role required
  • Intermediate knowledge of all related computer and software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams required
