Finance Intern

Internship Summary

This internship provides a unique opportunity for an ambitious undergraduate or graduate student to immerse him/herself in the Finance segment of a major pharmaceutical company. The role is crafted to offer firsthand experience in basic finance operations, including accounts payable and accounts receivable/credit services, and business development, emphasizing the pharmaceutical industry's dynamic and complex nature. The intern will work closely with colleagues within the Finance organization and other functional areas to support various aspects of financial modeling, market/competitive research, accounts payable, accounts receivable (credit and collections), and ad-hoc project ensuring alignment with the Company's values of Collaboration, Integrity, Courage, and Innovation.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop knowledge of roles and functions within the Finance organization, including Business Development Finance, Accounts Payable, and Credit Services.
  • Help to update, simplify, and streamline relevant financial models, tables, and presentations.
  • Write and distribute weekly summaries of relevant market and industry activity,
  • Conduct research on life sciences companies, programs, therapeutic areas, and other relevant topics related to business development efforts; attend relevant webinars and draft event summaries.
  • Assist with the preparation of customer short payment forms and collection efforts to recuperate credit/deduction balances, including sending credit copies to customers, assisting with the identification of open items to reconcile accounts, obtaining financial statements from various websites (e.g., Dun and Bradstreet, Securities and Exchange Commission), and assisting with special projects, among other tasks.
  • Review and analyze accounts payable transactions in “pending coding” status for submitted vendor/supplier invoices, including researching pending items and conducting necessary follow-up actions.
  • Provide cross-functional operational support on ad hoc requests and deliverables.

Education

  • Required: Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program.
  • Preferred: Accounting, Finance, or Business major.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Adaptable to a dynamic environment and the ability to work independently.
  • Effective research skills.
  • Able to collaborate effectively with cross functional team members and external partners.
  • Goal-oriented, project-oriented, and achievement-oriented.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple priorities for multiple stakeholders.
  • Desire to learn from others and build relationships across the organization.
  • Prior experience in (or exposure to) healthcare or the pharmaceutical industry a plus.

Additional Information

  • Able to work 3 – 4 days per week (preferably during core office hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from Monday through Thursday) for 8 – 10 weeks.
