2024 - 2025 Building Support Assistant at DORS

Christel House Indianapolis is currently seeking an Building Support Assistant.

DESCRIPTION: The Building Support Assistant assists the teacher or their designee by supervising students in the classroom, preparing materials for use in the classroom, and supporting students in the classroom or supervising an independent student learning lab. The Building Support Assistant’s purpose is to support the student’s learning and oversee the independent learning lab, giving students assistance when needed and ensuring that students are utilizing their time well while in the lab.

JOB SUMMARY: This position provides support to students needing additional assistance in meeting academic standards, through small group, individual and co-instructional methods.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide classroom coverage (all subjects)
  • Provide Resource coach's office coverage (provide students with Info. on current Resource Events, take notes to share with RC upon return)
  • Provide Academic coach's office coverage (look up student schedule in PowerSchool, etc)
  • Provide Admin Assist. coverage (answer the phone, schedule onboarding, etc.)
  • Provide student technical support (showing students how to utilize login and password to gain access to Google Classroom)
  • Enter student attendance (all classes as needed)
  • Proctor Test (as needed)
  • Provide instructional Assistant support as needed (classes with the highest in-person attendance each period)
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned by the building leader as needed.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
  • Attend meetings and in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
  • Other duties assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree with some training/exposure to education and teaching
  • Ability and willingness to work collaboratively; maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Competency in using technology
  • Ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
  • An agreement with the mission statement and goals of Christel House Schools.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
