Photographer and Media Assistant

Camp Merrie-Woode Internship Opportunity

Title: Photographer and Media Assistant
Reports To: Communications Coordinator 
Duration: This is a seasonal position for the duration of Merrie-Woode’s summer programming, starting May 26 and ending August 8.
Salary: Compensation will be commensurate with experience. Salary will be paid on a weekly basis. 

Position Summary:

 Camp Merrie-Woode is an all-girls summer camp in Sapphire, NC dedicated to nurturing the physical, intellectual, and spiritual growth of girls and young women through traditional camp activities and outdoor adventures. We are seeking a creative and skilled summer Photographer and Media Assistant to capture the magic and memories created at Camp. As the camp photographer, you will play a crucial role in documenting the camp experience and the unique moments that make each summer special. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Activity Photography and Videography: Conduct daily photography sessions during various camp activities, ensuring coverage of all age groups and diverse programs. Assist in filming content for website and promotional videos.
  • Adventure Photography: Capture weekly photographs on our boating and mountaineering trips out of Camp. Dependent upon experience.
  • Production Videography: Assist Communications Coordinator in filming summer drama productions.
  • Editing and Cataloging: Edit and organize photos in a timely manner, ensuring a diverse and comprehensive collection of images that can be used for promotional materials and social media. Assist in creation of session slideshows for campers.
  • Social Media Engagement: Assist Communications Coordinator with Camp’s social media presence by drafting posts and regularly sharing captivating images.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Take responsibility for the care and maintenance of photography equipment, ensuring it is in optimal condition for daily use. 

     

Qualifications and Core Competencies:

  • Previous experience in photography, especially in a camp or event setting, is preferred. 
  • Proficiency with photography equipment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with campers and staff to capture genuine moments.
  • Creative and innovative thinking with an eye for detail.
  • Enthusiasm for working in a camp setting and understanding the unique dynamics of an all-girls environment. 
  • Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
