Assistant Director for Learning Design, Innovation & Technology (LDIT)

Manage assessment needs of the student body and the organization of educational, social and cultural activities.

 

Position Description :

Reporting to the Associate Director for Residential Master's Education, the Assistant Director serves as a strategic thought partner with Faculty Co-Chairs on the development and delivery of the LDIT program. The Assistant Director is part of a cohesive and collaborative team that contributes to and implements the features of a 21st century model of programming for student success in higher education, ultimately providing an exceptional learning experience for all HGSE master’s students.
 
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
 
Academic Requirements and Advising

•    Contribute to the successful implementation of HGSE’s Residential master’s programs including identifying, drafting and/or recommending processes, policies, and administrative operations to ensure success
•    Oversee and provide coaching and advising to students on course selection, degree requirements, career goals and planning, policies, and academic or personal concerns  
•    Ensure exceptional communication across people and teams to capture a complete picture of students’ experiences, questions, concerns, and needs  
•    Convene groups of faculty as appropriate to evaluate trends, needs, and issues of concern
•    Design and provide Program-specific curricular, programmatic, and policy information to Faculty to inform their advising work with students
•    Support the faculty Co-Chairs in the continued development and implementation of program requirements, curriculum, and academic policies
•    Create and oversee adherence to Program Study Plans as needed
•    Track students’ academic progress, and program requirements including data analysis during multiple points in the semester, bringing issues of concern to faculty Co-Chairs
•    Represent the Program in the annual course scheduling process
•    Participate in and provide support for the Ed.M. related committees including weekly ESS meetings and monthly meetings with the Office of the Registrar.
•    Serve as the primary contact for students, referring to appropriate resources as needed
 
Admissions and Recruitment

•    Serve as a full member of the LDIT admissions committee  
•    Play a central role in the recruitment, admission, yield, and guidance of prospective and admitted LDIT students
•    Design and deliver information sessions for applicants/admitted students in collaboration with the Admissions Office
•    In collaboration with Admissions team, support application reading assignments and ensure timely ratings submission and enter admissions decisions into Slate

Program Community Building or Communications and Student Support

•    With a focus on diversity, inclusion and belonging, and student wellness, plan and deliver comprehensive programming and specialized offerings that build community and support student success across academic, personal, and professional domains. Oversee and attend all program-related events.
•    Ensure community-building efforts are communicated and streamlined across other HGSE administrative units (e.g., events not duplicated by multiple offices)
•    Create and oversee Program-specific data collection strategies to understand students’ needs and concerns, which then inform programming

Typical Core Duties :

  • Responsible for effective staff management, including hiring and orientation, training and development, workflow and performance management, and the promotion of an inclusive and innovative work environment
  • Develop and implement programs to enhance the quality of the student experience; manage processes, outreach, content and finances
  • Act as a primary advising resource for students and faculty program requirements, academic degree progress, leaves of absence, cross-registration, adviser selection, and quality of life
  • Manage events and conferences including developing content, structure, and publicity, coordinating with other Harvard offices and groups, and managing logistical details
  • Advise student organizations on a variety of matters including risk reduction strategies, safe alcohol management, budgeting and goal setting
  • Produce and analyze reports to analyze program and event data
  • May determine accessibility eligibility and promote available resources and options that are available
  • May work with the Title IX office on best practices, and coordination of the University’s overall response to Title IX issues
  • Develop and implement comprehensive event management training programs for student organization leaders
  • Interpret and clarify local and University policies and procedures for student leaders
  • Ensure compliance with University policies and procedures and applicable legal rules and regulations

 

*Basic Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills :

  • Supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, intermediate Excel skills
  • Ability to work with students, student organizations, colleagues, clients and external organizations
  • Communication skills (both written and verbal)
