Development Summer Intern

Job Summary

 

UGE develops, owns, and operates community and commercial solar and energy storage projects, primarily in the United States. With over a decade of experience in the industry, we are on the front lines, working to accelerate the transition to clean, reliable energy.

 

Our team is growing quickly, and we seek a talented and motivated individual for a summer internship on our Development team. The UGE Summer Internship Program will offer undergraduate/ graduate students hands-on experience assisting in the development of distributed energy assets while learning more about the solar and renewable energy industries. As a Development intern you will gain experience in community solar, distributed generation, solar project development, management, and financing.

 

The Development Intern will work closely with the development team to support pre-construction activities leading up to the NTP milestone for the UGE portfolio. This position will consist of a variety of different tasks, including interconnection and permitting support, assisting in due diligence research for incentive programs, along with support and fulfilling tasks in alignment with established development budgets and schedules.

Schedule

 

  • Paid part-time summer internship: three days a week / 8 hours a day / 12 weeks 
  • Primarily remote; preferred candidates will be able to commute to the UGE New York or Toronto office periodically throughout the internship period.
  • June 3rd, 2024 - August 30th, 2024.
  • A $2,500 stipend will be paid to the intern 

 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Project Evaluation: Work with UGE’s origination team to review potential project sites, review feasibility assessments, conceptual project designs using PV simulation software such as Helioscope, Anderson, and other project platforms.
  • Incentives: Assist with the research and documentation of various solar incentive programs such as the Department of Energy's Low-Income Community Bonus Credit Program and the NY-Sun Solar Program.
  • Project Development: Assist the Senior Project Developer by coordinating with various project stakeholders such as landowner, consultants, and other project related vendors.
  • Interconnection Support: Assist with the monitoring of multiple Utility interconnection portals and their project queues. Support and complete interconnection applications and additional requirements set forth by the Utility.
  • Permitting: Assist with permitting applications required for project development such as a Conditional Use, Development and/or Building Permits to local Authorities Holding Jurisdiction (AHJ) such as townships, county, or city officials.
  • Organization: Provide support in the organization and filing of important project information and details on UGE’s internal database and NetSuite software.
  • Scheduling: Support the management of individual project schedules and identify critical project tasks.

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • A strong interest in the renewable energy sector and a passion for decarbonization initiatives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Basic knowledge of energy terms (e.g. kW, kWh, kVa, $/W, BESS, DG, CDG)
  • Knowledge of MS Office 365 software programs such as MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and Presentation.
  • Passionate about the clean energy industry and working at a mission-drive company.
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in a related field or industry equivalent and/or working towards a graduate degree.
  • Prior internship experience in project development, or other renewable energy field is preferred and considered an asset.
