Lead Librarian for Research Strategies

The Cornell University Library’s Research & Learning Services (Olin and Uris Libraries) is seeking applications for a Lead Librarian for Research Strategies.

 

The Opportunity: 

Cornell University Library seeks an experienced librarian as the Lead Librarian for Research Strategies, a key member of the Olin & Uris Libraries’ Research & Learning Services leadership team. This position is based in the John M. Olin Library, currently reimagining services and facilities. As a central research hub for the College of Arts and Sciences, this is an important location at the heart of campus; the person in this position will strategize research services and directions for the humanities and social sciences and will contribute to research services across Cornell’s large and complex Library system. Reporting to the Director of Olin and Uris Libraries and supervising five Research, Teaching and Extension (RTE) faculty librarians, they will also participate in outreach, instruction, and collection development in their own area of specialty so that they’ll be able to directly engage with our community of scholars. If you’re interested in how AI and/or critical digital literacies interact with research, this would be a great opportunity to develop innovative services and hold a leadership role in public services at a major research institution.

 

Candidate Profile:

  • 5-7 years of relevant professional experience, including 3-5 years of demonstrated successful supervisory experience and an ability to build relationships, lead teams, and foster collaboration, either within or outside libraries.
  • Demonstrated interest in or professional focus on reference and research services and experience in training library staff and/or supporting the continuing education needs and wellbeing of library staff.
  • Proven ability to cultivate an environment of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
  • Experience in developing and implementing innovative programs with a user-centered approaches to designing services.
  • MLS; or master’s degree in a humanities or social science discipline and library work experience.
  • Demonstrated strategies for conveying complex and nuanced ideas.

 

Additionally, we would prefer:

  • Interest in emerging focus areas and technologies and how they intersect with research services, such as AI and critical digital literacies. 
  • Academic preparation in Philosophy, Western European Studies, or American History, with reading ability in a language other than English, if appropriate.

 

This position is located in Ithaca, New York. The selected candidate will typically work on the Ithaca campus 4 days per week, with potential for entering into a flexible work arrangement to allow remote work 1 day per week. The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time.

 

The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside New York State.

The anticipated academic rank is Associate Librarian or Librarian, with an anticipated salary range of $86,000-$136,000, dependent on experience and qualifications.
