Audience and Social Media Fellow (Summer 2024)

Business Insider is hiring an audience fellow to distribute stories across various social networks and video platforms.

The Business Insider Fellowship Program is for early career journalists who want to spend six months learning from a newsroom full of passionate, dedicated journalists. Fellows are assigned to teams and become experts in digital storytelling. They produce real work that is distributed to our audience of millions, and by the end of six months, they are prepared for the next phase of their journalism careers. This role requires you to work for 40 hours a week. Fellows are encouraged to come into our New York, LA, or San Francisco offices two times a week.

The Role & Team:

Our social media accounts are the face of our brands, and our audience fellows play an integral role by helping to run our growing network.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage posting schedules across social channels
  • Help the audience team reach its goals on platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Reddit, Snapchat, TikTok, and LinkedIn
  • Distributing new videos and stories on social channels as they are published, as well as recirculating dozens of evergreen archive pieces per day
  • Pitching stories to our syndication partners including Apple News, Flipboard, Digg, and Yahoo
  • Organizing and maintaining our archives
  • Analyze data and tracking statistics, and work collaboratively to develop our social strategies
  • Work with content from all verticals on both websites and the video team
  • Working with teams across the company in a fast-paced environment
  • Juggling multiple tasks and deadlines at once and pivoting from one task to the next without missing a beat
  • Making the correct judgment calls based on what they’ve been trained on

Additionally, candidates for the audience fellowship should have:

  • Work experience with one or more social media platforms
  • Experience working with breaking news
  • Experience working with editorial and journalism
  • Some familiarity with distribution of social video
  • Experience with content management systems
  • Experience with Photoshop
  • Interest in data collection and analysis
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment and juggling multiple daily responsibilities

Salary & Benefits:

  • Fellows are paid $20 per hour (overtime when needed and approved)
  • PTO and paid holidays
  • Eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits on 91st day of employment
