Big Business Video Production Fellow (Summer 2024)

Business Insider is hiring a video production fellow to join our video team and produce and edit stories about fascinating industries and the people powering them.

The Business Insider Fellowship Program is for early career journalists who want to spend six months learning from a newsroom full of passionate, dedicated journalists. Fellows are assigned to teams and become experts in digital storytelling. They produce real work that is distributed to our audience of millions, and by the end of six months, they are prepared for the next phase of their journalism careers. This role requires you to work for 40 hours a week and can be fully remote.

The Role & Team:

As a Big Business fellow, you will spend your time assisting the production of videos across a range of subjects. Producing Fellows work closely with producers, cinematographers, animators, editors to create videos for a wide audience across the web and various social media platforms. Candidates should be familiar with our existing videos and eager to contribute work in our style.

This role reports directly to the Supervising Producer for the show and sits on the larger News & Documentary video team. Insider is a flexible workplace when it comes to remote work, but an important part of the fellowship is being a part of the newsroom in person for learning opportunities. Fellows are asked to come into our offices in New York City/London/LA at least two days a week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research, pitch and report ideas for the show
  • Interview sources in various fields of work
  • Execute scripts into visually engaging videos that will be shared across platforms
  • Edit 8-12 minute documentaries using Adobe Premiere
  • Collaborate with the larger team on pre-production, production and post-production workflows

The ideal candidate has:

  • A passion for storytelling through video
  • Strong pre-production skills including creating shot lists, organizing call sheets, and assembling/managing gear is a plus
  • Video research skills
  • Skills in Adobe Premiere, Photoshop. Proficiency in Illustrator, After Effects, and other Adobe software is a plus.
  • Experience using audio and digital video equipment including Canon, Panasonic, and Sony cameras

Additionally, all of our editorial fellows should have:

  • Voracious reading habits
  • Familiarity with digital and social media
  • The ability to work quickly and collaboratively with a fast-paced team
  • Proofreading and copyediting skills
  • A love of Business Insider and our mission to serve readers with the information and inspiration they need in a way that’s accurate, fair, fast, and fun

Salary & Benefits:

  • Fellows are paid $20 per hour (overtime when needed and approved)
  • PTO and paid holidays
  • Eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits on 91st day of employment
