Communications & Events Intern

IDG is hiring for a Communications Intern for June 2024-August 2024. This paid, part-time position which will require a minimum of 24 hours per week. IDG's internship program is open to currently enrolled students in undergraduate and graduate programs. Individuals who have already graduated are also eligible.
 

We are looking for a Communications Intern with a passion for communications with an interest in international development. The Communications Intern will be an integral part of the Communications team, focusing on online content, website management, administration, and supporting design deliverables for a quickly growing international development firm. The Communications Intern will report directly to IDG’s Communications and Events Manager.
 

Writing will be an integral part of this position. Please include at least two writing samples in your application and a graphic design sample (i.e. social media graphic, flyer, infographic, etc.)
 

 
 

Location: Arlington, VA / Remote
 

Key Responsibilities:
 

·       Communicate across project teams and source internal and public information to draft social media copy for Facebook and Twitter. Manage social media content calendar.
 

·       Support website maintenance, such as updates to project pages.
 

·       Provide graphic design support to corporate and project communications requests. A keen eye for design and familiarity using Canva and/or Adobe editing products (Illustrator, InDesign, or Photoshop).
 

·       Support internal and external corporate communications projects, such as newsletters, announcements, etc.
 

·       Support administrative tasks, such as attending relevant meetings, note-taking, and drafting communications-related payment forms.
 

·       Support communications-related ad hoc requests assigned by Communications and Events Manager
 

·       Research current international and economic development happenings to connect IDG's work to timely and/or trending topics on social media.
 

·       Support documentation and tracking of event information to support knowledge management tool
 

 
 

Qualifications:
 

·       Pursuing a bachelor/graduate degree in a related field of study. Recent graduates are also eligible. Humanities or liberal arts degree preferred.
 

·       Experience managing social media platforms and marketing tools like LinkedIn, Twitter, and Loomly.
 

·       Experience using WordPress and supporting website preferred.
 

·       Prior experience creating digital visual content is required.
 

·       Demonstrated experience using design software such as Canva and/or Adobe editing products (Illustrator, InDesign, or Photoshop).
 

·       Familiarity with AP or Chicago Style or experience editing with style guides.
 

·       Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including experience with copyediting and understanding and condensing complex information into quick summaries
 

·       Ability to work well individually and in a team in a very diverse and multicultural organization in remote and in-person settings.  
 

·       Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and Gmail.
 

·       Meticulous eye for detail and keen eye for design
 

·       Must be organized and detail-oriented.
 

·       Demonstrated experience in communications.
 

·       Knowledge of international development or current affairs is appreciated.
