Community Energy Project (CEP) provides free home services focused on safety, health, and energy efficiency. We provide free community education and supplies, as well as direct home energy upgrades and repairs. All our services are made possible by partnerships with community members and service organizations, utilities, corporations, foundations, and government agencies.

Position Overview & Description

Data is how we tell stories: to decision-makers, the public, and internally. The data we gather and how we gather it speaks to our priorities as a climate justice organization. The Program Data Fellow is going to support one of CEP’s four strategic priorities of using quantitative and qualitative data that is representative of the communities we serve to inform our advocacy work, program design, and program delivery. They will do a deep dive into the way that CEP gathers, reports on, and responds to data we get from our community. They will analyze the way we currently track data, conduct a variety of cross-departmental analyses, and learn about equity metrics. 

The Fellow will also gain field experience in data collection and analysis by collaborating with CEP staff at the many points where data is collected: At inception (new program design), delivery, documentation, analysis, and utilization internally and externally. This will allow them to not only have a hand in direct service but to understand how data is collected and utilized to be effective through analysis. The Fellow will also work with the Executive Director and Engagement Manager on our strategic planning goals around data. Occasional evenings and weekends will be required, as this is how we work directly and best serve our communities. This Fellowship will average 40/hrs a week and for weeks where evening and weekend work is required, hours can be flexed during the day/time. This Fellowship is available as a hybrid role with an estimated average of 2-3 days a week needed in the office or in the field (dependent on project needs). If desired, the Fellow may use the office 5 days per week.

Responsibilities

• Organizational Capacity: Support CEP’s priority of developing a data-driven strategy by reviewing, documenting, and analyzing current data practices. Exploration of new ideas such as a data charter, new databases, and community involvement. CEP currently utilizes a mix of Acuity, Salesforce, Google Drive Docs and Sheets, Community Services, and program-specific platforms such as The Oregon Community Solar participant management system.
• Program Support: Oregon Community Solar, Climate Resilience Workshops, Direct Home Install programs including but not limited to shadowing staff in these positions to understand data collection process and client management, gaining direct field experience, collaborating on solutions to streamline processes for data collection, and researching and suggesting updates to current processes.
• Community Listening Sessions: logistical support, synthesizing comments, documenting learning

Desired Qualifications

• Strong administrative skills and attention to detail
• Strong research and analysis skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills—able to manage and communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people in a variety of manners.
• Strong interest in environmental & social justice issues and community development
• Personal or professional experience with culturally informed services to diverse and traditionally underserved groups (e.g. BIPOC, LGBTQIA, low-income) is highly desirable.
• Experience using or baseline understanding of databases and spreadsheets including Acuity, Salesforce, Google Drive Docs and Sheets, and/or Community Services
• Ability to be self-motivated on projects, ask questions as needed
• Strong writing skills with the ability to summarize data and technical information in an accessible and digestible manner
• Bachelor's degree or 4 years equivalent experience preferred
